Chemical peels are a type of cosmetic surgery that you can undertake if you desire to improve the texture of the skin on and around your face. It's a common cosmetic procedure that is undergone by many, but not spoken of much. In that respect, we've assembled this article in order to inform you about the chemical peel process so that you can know what to expect from it.

In a chemical peel, different chemicals are used in order to make the face appear more smooth and unblemished. It's a procedure that is commonly undertaken by those who have problems with blemishes, differently colored portions of skin, or wrinkles occurring on their face. The process can work to remove skin growths that may be precursors to cancer, and it can help to control an acne problem. One neat aspect of chemical peels that is not common amongst other cosmetic procedures is the fact that you can sometimes get your insurance carrier to foot the bill. There are a few different chemicals that are used in the chemical peel process, and we'll give you a basic idea of what the different acids are and how they work to help the face.

Alpha-hydroxy acids, or AHAs, work to help smooth out any dry or rough patches of skin that occur on the face. They can also help to improve sun damage to the face, as well as helping to control acne problems. One down-side to this chemical type is that you may need to undergo a series of peels in order to achieve the desired results. Another type of acid that is commonly used in the chemical peel process is known as trichloroacetic acid, or TCA. This acid works to help clear up wrinkles on the face, as well as working towards removing blemishes and helping to ease pigment problems in the face. This acid is the type of acid that is most commonly used for those with dark skin. The acid takes between ten and fifteen minutes to achieve the full result, and the healing for a TCA peel usually occurs quicker than the healing process that is involved with Alpha-hydroxy acids. Last, but not least, in the chemical peel arsenal is phenol. This type of chemical is commonly used to help correct the coloring of blotches on the face, as well as helping to smooth out wrinkles and assisting in removing skin growths that may lead to cancer.

Chemical peels are an outpatient procedure that doesn't require anesthesia in order to be performed. After the peel is performed, you will likely be asked to care for your face by applying Retin-A, a cream that helps to supply your skin with much-needed Vitamin A. After the procedure, you may experience flaking of the skin or a swelling of the face. Within seven to ten days, you should be able to completely see what the result of your procedure will look like. Remember to keep realistic expectations with the procedure and you're sure to be pleased!

Plastic surgery is a combination of surgical procedure and an art form that strives to improve the looks of an individual. While many believe that the term 'plastic' refers to the appearance of the individual undergoing the surgery changing to look more fake and plastic, it's not the case. The name actually comes from a Greek

In this article, we'll trace the beginnings of plastic surgery so that you can understand exactly how far that we have come in cosmetic surgical procedures.

One of the earliest examples of plastic surgery that you can see in human history is the use of skin grafts used in reconstructive surgeries which were performed in India around 800 BC. Plastic surgery didn't really make much progress from that point onwards until the 19th century. In the year of 1827, the first operation to help aid a cleft palate was performed by a physician named John Peter Mettauer. Around this period of time, much progress began to be made when it comes to reconstructive surgeries. This is due mostly in part to the fact that the wars of the time caused such wide-spread damage that doctors strived to do surgeries that would help their patients feel more comfortable with their appearance.

Many different types of surgeries began to be employed, with many facial reconstructive procedures being at the forefront. These surgeries became the basis for many of the plastic surgery procedures that are being performed to this day.

When World War II broke out in the 1940s, surgeons once again had a large problem to face when it came to helping people with deformities from the modern weapons of war. In this time, an organization known as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, or ASPS, became quite prominent in the medical world with its membership growing by leaps and bounds. The organization was committed to upholding stringent practices for which plastic surgeons should operate, requiring a board certification to obtain membership into the group. When the 1950s came about, many significant surgical procedures were discovered, owing mostly in part to war victims in Korea. Some of the more significant achievements heralded in this time period included the usage of rotation flaps for skin deformities and internal wiring for facial features.

During the 1960s, many other discoveries were made. One of the most prominent was likely the use of silicone in plastic surgery procedures. Originally used to treat imperfections of the skin, in 1962, it was first used to augment breasts, which would soon grow to be one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. The next few decades saw an increase in understanding of how to perform plastic surgery operations while making the patient feel as comfortable as possible. As it stands today, plastic surgery is largely engrained in our culture, and it's widespread use has come to be accepted by many. While there's still much to learn about reconstructive and cosmetic procedures, the progress that we've made in the past century have truly shown the potential for what we may one day be able to do.

Breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in women. Many find that an increase in breast size helps to give them much-needed confidence and for that reason, more and more women are undergoing the surgery. In this article, we'll give you a basic idea of the types of breast augmentation surgeries that are performed so that you can better understand the various procedures' strengths and weaknesses.

One aspect of breast augmentation surgery that should be apparent to anyone who pays attention the news is the controversy surrounding silicon implants. These implants were used when breast augmentation surgery was first reaching the forefront of cosmetic procedures, and it has since been banned by the Food and Drug Administration due to the possibility of damage to the body that the implants may cause. However, there are many different types of implants that can be performed now which are much safer than silicon while still looking marvelously realistic. The cost of breast implants can vary to a large degree depending on what type of implants are used and the surgical method being employed. As of 2000, the average costs of a breast augmentation surgery rested at $3112. You may find breast implants for $2000, and you can find them costing upwards of $9000. For that reason, it's important to ensure that the surgeon performing the procedure is of the utmost talent and expertise.

The basic breast implant consists of a balloon-like sac that is filled with fluid in order to simulate the natural feel of the breast. The most commonly used fluid to fill the sac is saline, a type of sterile salt water which causes few complications. Patients can choose the size of the implant that they want to have, but surgeons may recommend to not go too big too soon, as to not cause stretching and damage to the natural breast. In the surgery, the sacs are most often inserted in the breast tissue and then inflated with the fluid.

Some surgeons fill the sac with fluid before insertion, but it is not a common method of performing implants. There are two different basic sac shapes that one may select when getting breast implants: round and contoured. Round implants are the most commonly used, with the sac being uniformly round and adding the most to the mass of the breast. Contoured implants are more tear-shaped, and are used to more closely mimic the look of a natural breast. Another type of implant that is available although not commonly used is the expandable saline implant. This implant is placed via an incision in the armpit, and it is installed with a tube connecting from the implant to a hole in the patient's armpit. In this way, surgeons can slowly increase the size of the implant in order to allow the patient's body to adapt more readily to the surgery. After the patient is happy with the size of their implant, the tube connected to the implant can be removed.

Now that you know more about the basics of a breast implant surgery, you can better understand the different types of procedures and can hopefully make a better decision regarding what you choose to have performed on yourself.

Plastic surgery is a process that many people choose to undergo in order to change their physical appearance. Many of the plastic surgery options available are on the expensive side, and paying money is no guarantee that you'll be happy with the procedure that you are undertaking. In that respect, we've created this article to help to inform you about some of the things that you should look for when you are choosing a plastic surgeon.

One of the most important things to consider when looking for the right plastic surgeon is the accreditation that the doctor has. There are many organizations that require board-exam certifications in order for a surgeon to be a member of them. In America, you'll want to look for a plastic surgeon that is certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, one of the most accredited organizations for plastic surgeons in the United States. These doctors are chosen due to the fact that they have at least five years of training in surgical procedures as well as at least two years of training exclusively in the field of plastic surgery. There are around 5,000 plastic surgeons certified by the ASPS in the United States, so you shouldn't have trouble finding one that meets the accreditation. Also, you're going to want to make sure that the place where the doctor will be performing the surgery is a medically accredited institution. Check the background of the education of the plastic surgeon you're considering hiring. It is also important to note any innovations that the doctor has made in the field of plastic surgery to help to show you exactly how on the ball they are.

When it comes to investigating the procedures that a plastic surgeon employs, you're going to want to ensure that they have a steady follow-up program with their patients. There is always some degree of chance when a surgical operation is performed and it's important to be sure that your doctor will not abandon you post-surgery. Be sure to enquire about before and after pictures of past procedures the doctor has performed, specifically looking at pictures of the same type of surgery that you are considering getting.

Above all else, plastic surgery is an art form, and some surgeons are more skilled than others when it comes to achieving aesthetic perfection. Remember that a cheaper deal on surgery is in no way a guarantee that you are going to be getting quality service. The best thing that you can do is to study their past patient histories as well as their academic accreditations before you make a decision. You may want to ask your family doctor if they are familiar with anybody in the plastic surgery field that they are able to confidently trust. When you undergo a plastic surgery procedure, you are agreeing to permanently change your body. For that reason, you can never be too safe when it comes to choosing the right surgeon. Never be too hasty in a plastic surgery decision, as you can truly regret it in the long run if you rush things.

The presence of heavy deposits of fat in the midsection and elsewhere can be really unappealing from an aesthetic standpoint. Many people seek to alter their appearance by removing some of the fat present in their bodies, and to that end, liposuction is one of the most popular forms of plastic surgery performed. In this article, we'll explore exactly what goes on in a liposuction procedure and let you know some details about the operation so that you can better understand exactly how it works.

Liposuction is a great surgical method for removing deposits of fat all over the body. Some common places that people seek liposuction surgery include the abs, the hips, the buttocks, thighs, arms, chin, and neck. There are actually many different techniques of liposuction that are employed to treat specific areas of the body. Those who seek liposuction are often those who are relatively normal in body size and have deposits of fat in certain areas exclusively. Diabetics and those with heart disease or lung disease are generally recommended to avoid liposuction. It is a procedure that can be performed in a surgeon's office facility in certain cases, but it is also performed in hospitals. When the liposuction procedure is relatively small it is usually an outpatient procedure. For larger size liposuctions, an overnight stay in a hospital bed may be required. The procedure is generally performed under local anesthesia, numbing the area that the surgery is focusing on. For larger liposuctions, general anesthesia may be used to sedate the patient.

The procedure itself generally begins with a small incision being made on the area where the liposuction is being performed. A tube is inserted into the incision and a vacuum-like machine works to suck the fat from the layer present in the area. This is the basic method for which liposuction has been performed for years. There are some innovations that have come into the procedure, however, which can aid the physician in performing it quickly and effectively. One of these methods involves fluid injection. Before sucking the fat out of the area, the surgeon will inject the patient with a type of fluid that works as an anesthetic and helps to contract blood vessels. This helps the fat to break away easier and it reduces the amount of blood loss that a patient experiences when undergoing the procedure. Another method of some use to plastic surgeons is the Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty, in which a surgeon uses ultra-sonic energy in order to liquefy the fat present in the area, allowing it to be much easier to remove.

After the procedure is performed, recovery may take a little while. To keep swelling down and to aid your skin in tightening back up around the affected area, you will probably be asked to wear tight clothing on the area. After a week to ten days, the stitches where the incision was made will either dissolve or be removed by the doctor performing the surgery. After four to six weeks, most of the swelling will have gone away and you should be able to get a basic idea of the final result of the surgery.

One type of plastic surgery that is extremely popular, yet not often talked about, is the blepharoplasty. This type of surgery is used to remove fat from the upper eyelids of a patient. Excess skin and muscle from the eye area is also removed, causing the patient's eyes to appear more vibrant and young. People who suffer from bags below the eyes or upper eyelids that appear to droop can greatly benefit by undergoing this procedure, and it can be done in tandem with other facial operations in order to give a full change to the face of the patient.

The ideal candidate for the surgery is a person who has a healthy self image but hopes for a certain degree of improvement in their eyelid area. You should have realistic expectations about the surgery and you should express your ideal outcome with your surgeon to ensure that you are a proper candidate. Planning for this type of surgery is tantamount; your surgeon will want you to undergo some simple medical tests in order to ensure that your operation will go as planned. They will test your vision as well as your eyes' ability to create tears.

You should go into the surgeon's consultation with a clear idea in your head of what exactly you'd like to do for the surgery. Be sure to note which lids you would like to work on, as some patients prefer to only get the surgery on their upper eyelids while others feel that all four lids should be altered. This knowledge will greatly increase your ability to communicate your needs to the surgeon. If you are unsure of what exactly you should do, ask your surgeon; they are experts in the field of aesthetics and therefore can make a proper medical decision when it comes to what they think would be best for you.

Once you realize exactly what you want to perform, the doctor will be able to give you a quote regarding exactly how much the procedure will cost as well as the types of methods he or she will be using in order to achieve the desired result. It's an outpatient process that is usually performed in a plastic surgeon's office-based facility. It's performed under local anesthesia, which means that the area of your eye will be numbed, but you will be awake.

You will usually be under the influence of sedatives and pain-killer medications as well, however, so that you will better be able to tolerate the surgery. After the surgery, you can expect for the area of your eyelids to feel sore. You will probably be told to keep your head elevated as much as possible in order to ensure that the swelling and bruising from the operation is minimized. A proper plastic surgeon will be sure to schedule a follow-up visit around a week after the operation to check your progress. You can expect to be able to return to normal activities within ten days, with strenuous activities being allowed after about 3 weeks. The eyelids may appear slightly pink from swelling for as much as six months or more after surgery. Eventually, the coloring will fade, leaving you with your new eyelids!

One of the most commonly sought-after forms of plastic surgery is the rhinoplasty. This surgery is used in order to make the nose of a person fit more aesthetically with the rest of their face. Since the nose is the center-point of the face, altering it can drastically alter the appearance for the better when performed correctly. In this article, we'll go over some basic information about rhinoplasty so that you can understand exactly what the procedure consists of.

Rhinoplasty can be performed to fix large imperfections with the nose or small problems that can detract from the beauty of the face. The procedure is one that requires much precision on the part of the physician, and a result is rarely guaranteed when undergoing the surgery. For that reason, it's important to choose a doctor that is well trained in rhinoplasty. To ensure that your doctor is an expert in rhinoplasty, be sure to enquire about some before-and-after pictures of rhinoplasty procedures that he or she has performed in the past. The best way to gauge a plastic surgeon's ability is to see the types of operations that they have performed on others, and it's your best bet when it comes to determining whether or not a physician has the skills necessary to meet your criteria. While different surgeons may charge different rates for a rhinoplasty procedure, it most often costs between four and six thousand dollars. It's a serious thing to commit to and you need to realize it before you get the operation performed.

When performing rhinoplasty surgery, physicians have a few choices to select from when it comes to suiting your needs. They can perform either 'open' rhinoplasties or 'closed' rhinoplasties. Closed rhinoplasties are the most commonly performed method, in which incisions are made on the inside of the nostrils to perform the surgery. In more advanced rhinoplasty procedures, an open rhinoplasty may be required. In an open rhinoplasty, surgeons work to make incisions at the base of the nose so that they can draw the skin away from the bone. This method of surgery may leave scarring at the base of the nose but it is usually quick to fade and eventually becomes unnoticeable.

The surgery itself is a rather quick one. It takes around two to three hours to complete a rhinoplasty procedure, and it may be done under general anesthesia or while you are awake yet sedated. After the surgery is completed, the patient is given a cast on their nose which they must wear for around 7 days. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and is therefore one that can be undertaken quite quickly. The full results of the surgery will not be apparent for months, however, as the bones and cartilage need time to settle and heal. You may feel nauseous, and many patients experience black eyes due to the sensitivity of the face. These quickly fade, however, and patients can get a pretty basic idea of how their new nose will look within a month.

Many people wonder about how common plastic surgery really is. Since the methods of performing plastic surgery have become more and more refined, you're less likely to realize when one has a plastic surgery operation. To that end, in this article, we'll be discussing some hard numbers that relate to plastic surgery so that you can understand exactly how prominent the procedures are.

In the year of 1999 alone, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery noted that it's doctors and surgeons had performed almost 11.9 million cosmetic procedures. Of these procedures, 18 percent were surgical and the remaining 82 percent were non-surgical.

Between the years of 2003 and 2004, the widespread use of plastic surgery grew by leaps and bounds. Between these two years there was an increase in the number of plastic surgery operations of 44 percent. The number of surgical procedures being performed grew by 17 percent, and the number of non-surgical procedures grew by 51 percent. If that data sounds significant, consider how much plastic surgery has grown since 1997: since then, the total number of cosmetic procedures being performed per year grew by an amazing 465 percent. Of that number, surgical procedures saw a growth that was roughly 118 percent, and non-surgical procedures increased by a whopping 764 percent.

In the year of 2004, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery noted how often various procedures were performed. Their results showed that the number one plastic surgery procedure that was being performed was liposuction. After liposuction, breast augmentation was the second-most common procedure. Eyelid surgery came in third for 2004, followed by rhinoplasty and face lifts.

The reasons that men and women get plastic surgery vary to a great degree. For women, the top five most common procedures undertaken, in order, were liposuction, augmentation of the breast, eye lid surgery, tummy tucks, and facelifts. Men, on the other hand, had a very different list of most-performed surgeries. Liposuction was the most common procedure, followed by eyelid surgery, which was heavily desired by both sexes. Next came rhinoplasty, followed by male breast reduction operations and hair transplantation.

We all know that plastic surgery can be expensive, but you may be amazed at the amount of money that is spent on plastic surgery across America on a yearly basis. In 2004 alone, Americans spent about
12.5 billion dollars towards cosmetic procedures.

While women have plastic surgery more often than men, men still account for a large number of the plastic surgery procedures being performed. Roughly 1.2 million cosmetic procedures were performed on males in 2004, representing 8 percent of all plastic surgeries undertaken in the year.

As far as non-surgical cosmetic procedures go, the most commonly performed in 2004 was botox injections, which work to tighten the muscles of the face, causing an individual to appear younger with decreased wrinkles. The next most common non-surgical procedure was laser hair removal, followed by chemical peel procedures and microdermabrasion. The fifth most common non-surgical procedure was the use of hyaluronic acid.

You often hear about celebrities undergoing face lifts in order to keep their look of youth alive. The face can become weathered to the world, with gravity, sun exposure, and the daily problems that life throws at you all beginning to show on your face. For that reason, face lifts have become a relatively common procedure in the world of plastic surgery. In this article, we'll give you an in-depth explanation of how exactly a face lift works so that you can more accurately understand what's going on with the procedure and whether or not it's right for you.

In a face lift, the surgeon's goal is to subtract some years from the face via a host of methods. They do this by trimming the excess fat that may be found amongst the face, as well as tightening the muscles of the face before draping the skin back over it. It's a procedure that is commonly undertaken in conjunction with another type of plastic surgery such as a rhinoplasty or blepharoplasty.

Face lifts are an ideal procedure to undergo for those who are in relatively good shape, seeing as the elasticity of the face has a lot to do with what type of results you achieve from the procedure. While the average face lift patient is between the ages of forty and sixty, the procedure can be performed on those of any age, with some receiving the surgery in their eighties.

As with any type of surgery, there are a few risks that are associated with getting a face lift. Hematoma may occur, which is a pooling of blood that occurs underneath the skin. A surgeon will have to remove this excess blood should it become present. Also, you face some risk of injury of the facial muscles upon which the procedure is being performed. Infection also may occur, and poor healing may result in a slow recovery process.

When you're considering a face lift, one of the first and most important things that you need to do is have a consultation with a surgeon in which you'll discuss your goals for the surgery. The surgeon will evaluate the shape of your face and be able to give you a clear answer on whether or not you are a good candidate for the surgery.

It's important to realize when you are considering getting a face lift that there will be some permanent scarring present. In order to manipulate the muscles of the face and remove the excess fat, the surgeon will need to make incisions across the length of the face. Many of these incisions are made near the hairline, allowing for them to be hidden to a certain degree. After some time goes by, most of the scars will be barely apparent, with the natural creases in the face hiding a good portion of them. Also, after the surgery, a certain degree of swelling and bruising will occur before the final results are seen. As mentioned previously, face lifts allow you a method for turning back the clock for a few years. It may make you appear to be five or even ten years younger, and some patients find that another face lift some years down the road can help to keep their youthful appearance.

When most people think about plastic surgery for removing fat deposits from around their midsection, they think of liposuction. However, liposuction is most often used for small deposits of fat localized around the body. An abdominoplasty may be a better method for removing the fat around the stomach area. In this article, we'll take a look at the cosmetic procedure known affectionately as a 'tummy tuck' so that you can learn more about the surgery and be able to differentiate it from liposuction.

Where liposuction involves the use of a small incision, a tube, and a vacuum-effect to remove the fat from the body, tummy tucks involve a large incision that is to be made above the pubic area so that the surgeon can get to the layer of fat that is present around the abdomen. It will cause a huge change in the appearance of the abdomen, but the surgery also comes with the problem of the scar. The scar left by the surgery will be different depending on your body shape and appearance, but it is almost always noticeable. The best candidates for this plastic surgery procedure include those who are in good shape with the exception of a layer of fat around their midsection that they can't seem to get rid of through diet or exercise. It's also a great procedure for women who have had multiple pregnancies to get rid of some of the excess stretching that is involved in the childbirth process. If you're looking for a method to lose weight fast, you may want to look elsewhere. Those who are looking for a drastic improvement in their size should first do all that they can in order to eliminate the weight through a natural method.

When you're getting ready to get an abdominoplasty performed, you're going to want to make sure that you don't smoke cigarettes for at least a week to two weeks before the surgery, as well as for at least two weeks after the procedure. You should also be sure to avoid getting a lot of sun around your abdomen area, and you should eat a healthy diet in order to ensure that your body's ability to heal is not hindered. The surgery itself can take anywhere from two to five hours, with the difference in times being related to the extent of the operation. The incisions for the procedure are usually made first from hip bone to hip bone, and then another to separate the navel from the area of skin that is about to be lifted. The surgeon then will lift the layer of skin away from the body, exposing the layer of fat present on the abdomen. The fat is removed, and the muscles are tightened, as well as the skin. The skin is then stitched back into place, and recovery is generally expected to take between two and four weeks before you can get back into regular activities such as work. It will take between nine months and a year for the scars to reach a healing point in which they will be lessened to a decent extent.
