In today's article we are going to discuss two physical reasons why a person may experience hair loss. This information has been reported to be very accurate and taken from actual studies of men and women who have undergone either severe physical trauma to the scalp area, and women who have experienced hair loss soon after giving birth.

Head Injuries & Physical Trauma To The Scalp

Permanent hair loss can be a direct result of a severe physical injury to a person's scalp. Although in some cases the hair might grow back, the majority of head trauma victims will have a total loss of hair for the rest of their life. Some possible head trauma examples would be chemical burns from acid or other highly flammable substances, severe cutting and damage from a blunt object, and over-exposure to cold temperatures such as freezing from liquid nitrogen or from frostbite.

At times, physical damage that causes hair loss may not come in the form of a severe injury as described above. For example, if a person wears a tight fitting helmet or other headgear that causes continuous pressure, this can lead to permanent hair loss.

Surgical operations that went wrong can cause permanent hair loss, such as cosmetic surgeries like scalp reduction or a face lift. They may even have suffered from an incorrect hair replacement surgery as well.

Hair Loss In Women Who Have Gave Birth

Some women experience a temporary loss of hair soon after giving birth. The term for this condition is called "telogen effluvium". What happens here is that during the 2nd and 3rd trimester, the hair follicles that a woman has stays in the "growing phase" longer than it should have. So instead of the hair going through the normal regeneration cycle and shedding like it's supposed to, the hair follicles remain active and do not fall to the wayside which results in extremely thick hair.

Many women enjoy this temporary burst of luxurious hair growth. Unfortunately, this hair growth is not permanent. Within 12 weeks after giving birth, the woman's hair follicles will go back into their normal growth cycle. This means that all of this extra thick hair that should have been shedding for the last few months, as everyone's hair sheds normally, will now begin to fall out at a rapid pace, and usually does so all at once. This condition is temporary and is merely the result of a woman's body bouncing back to its original state as it was before becoming pregnant.

Hair loss is not always the result of disease, radiation treatments, or even genetics. In fact, most cases of men and women who lose their hair can be the direct result of prescription drug medications. In this article we will cover three drugs in particular; anti-inflammatory medications, anabolic steroids, and hormone replacement drugs.

Anti-inflammatory Medications: These drugs are used to relieve inflammation as well as reduce pain. Included in this category are ibuprofen and naproxen, both of which can be obtained over the counter. Anti-inflammatory medications (also referred to as NSAIDS) such as these have been reported as a contributor to hair loss in both men and women. Although rare, children's hair loss may also be affected by anti-inflammatory drugs.

If your doctor is going to prescribe you anti-inflammatory drugs, and you are concerned about hair loss, then you may want to discuss if the prescription he is giving you is one of the following: Relafen, Clinoril, Voltaren, Nalfon, Rofecoxib, Celebrex, Lodine, Orudis, & Indocin. All of these drugs have been reported to cause hair loss as a side effect.

Anabolic Steroids: When we hear the term "anabolic steroids" the first thing that usually pops up in a person's mind are bodybuilders who are known to abuse this drug in order to increase muscle mass. Indeed, anabolic steroids do increase a person's muscle mass if taken correctly because they are considered to be a male hormone, otherwise referred to as a synthetic androgen. However, one of the major side effects of taking anabolic steroids is premature hair loss in both men and women who were under these hormones.

Even if these medications are not abused in a way that bodybuilders treat them, just a slight dose of male hormones prescribed by a doctor can cause hair loss in people that are genetically sensitive to DHT.

Such medications that include testosterone and is considered an anabolic steroid prescription drug include the following: Depo-Testosterone, Android, Testred, Winstrol, Danocrine, Halotestin, Virilon, and Metandren.

Thyroid Medications: Last but not least, men and women who have a thyroid disorder have been shown to experience hair loss as a result of the medications given to help their condition. Two examples of these thyroid medications that are linked to hair thinning and baldness are thiouracil & carbimazole.

Once all the grafts have been planted and the procedure is finished, your surgeon will carefully clean your scalp so the grafts are hardly noticeable. Most patients do not need to wear bandages when they leave the doctor's office. In fact, most patients who undergo this type of surgery go back to work only a day or two after the procedure.

After the surgery is completed, you will be transferred to a recovery room where you can rest and have a light meal. After you have finished eating, your doctor will give you medication that will help lessen the pain as well as the swelling once the anesthesia wears off. More photos of your scalp will also be taken at this time.

This is also the time for you to call someone to pick you up. Most, if not all doctors, will not let their patients drive themselves home after the surgery. Therefore, it is important to plan ahead for a designated driver to pick you up.

You will be asked several questions and the doctor will give you a final check-up before leaving the hospital. Your doctor will also give you certain instructions to follow and how to take care of your grafts to ensure a quick recovery. Among them are listed below:

1. Your doctor may advice you to take prescription medication as soon as you arrive home to reduce any aches or pain in the donor area and to help you relax. Most patients only feel a slight discomfort and decide not to take any medication, while some patients may take a light dose of ibuprofen.

2. Your doctor will also advise you to avoid too much sun exposure and strenuous activity, which could do damage to your new implanted grafts.

3. During the healing process, which takes about 7 to 10 days, you will be given specific instructions on how to clean your scalp. This includes gently washing your scalp the day after surgery with a mild shampoo to keep it clean and get rid of bits of blood crusts.

You will also be instructed to apply an antibiotic ointment on your grafts everyday to prevent infections and to keep them moist. In addition to antibiotic ointment, you may also be prescribed antibiotic capsules to avoid any complications. Call your doctor's office immediately if any problem occurs, such as redness, bleeding, bumps, or swelling.

Your doctor will schedule you to come back after several days to remove the sutures from the donor site. This is a painless process and takes about 3 minutes. Your doctor will take more pictures and check your scalp to make sure that everything is going smoothly.

The grafts will start to establish connections to the blood supply right after the surgery. When the new blood supply is completely developed, new hairs will grow permanently, a process that takes about 4 months. Similar to the other hairs on your head, your new hairs will grow approximately inch per month. You will notice dramatic results in the density of your hair after about 4 months.

Did you know that many people start loosing their hair as a result of accidental poisoning? Not all toxins and poisons that get into the bloodstream will cause a person's hair to fall out, but some will cause hair loss when just a small amount is ingested.

Hair loss is actually one of the first signs that a person has been poisoned. Many people become sick from a common household product known as rat poisoning. There is an ingredient in most rat poisoning products called warfarin. When consumed, this substance can cause immediate hair loss. Ironically enough, warfarin can be used as a medicine when given in small amounts.

Other Toxins To Consider

As a highly industrial society, people are constantly surrounded by many toxins and poisons that they have never considered as a possible reason for fatigue and common sickness, especially hair loss. For example, metal salts and standard heavy metals can cause hair loss when inhaled over a long period of time. Such examples include thallium, bismuth, arsenic, mercury, gold, cadmium, and lithium.

What is very frightening is that many of these forms of toxins, especially organic metal salts, are constantly being absorbed by our bodies. How? Because they are used in the manufacturing so many of the products that we use on a daily basis.

Arsenic & Hair Loss

A good example of this madness is arsenic. Did you know that this dangerous poison is used to make glass, insecticides, fungicides, and even as wood preservatives – which is standardly used in the furniture we rest on? As you can probably assume, since hair loss is directly related to ingesting these toxins, it is a problem that most balding men and women have never considered.

Mercury & Hair Loss

Another scary example of a toxin that causes balding is Mercury. So many of us are ignorant to the fact that Mercury poisoning is abundant in most seafoods. If Mercury can lead to hair loss, then imagine how many health problems people are inviting into their lives because of the large amounts of sea food eaten. And consider also the many medicines and vaccines that are given each year to both children and adults. A large percentage of them contain mercury. It is no wonder that hair loss has become increasingly problematic as time goes by.

Vitamins & Hair Loss

Last but not least, a person can be poisoned by taking too many vitamins. I know it is hard to believe that a good thing can cause such a terrible experience like hair loss, but it is true. The best example of an overdose of vitamins which would lead to balding would be that of vitamin A. If a person consumes anywhere from 50,000 – 200,000 units of vitamin A over a time span of a few months, they can start to experience hair loss.

After careful and thorough research, you have decided that micrograft transplant surgery is right for you. You have located a reputable surgeon in your area who will perform the procedure and you have consulted with that surgeon so that he or she has given you the schedule date of your surgery. The next step is to learn everything you need to know in order to be fully prepared for the procedure.

There are certain requirements that you need to follow days prior to the procedure in order to reduce or completely eliminate any possible complications that may arise during and after the surgery. Below is a list of important prerequisites that you must follow immediately after you have scheduled for your micrografting surgery:

1. Do not take aspirin at least two weeks before the surgery.
2. Do not take vitamin E supplements within two weeks before the surgery.
3. If you are a smoker, stop smoking.
4. Do not take nonprescription medications that cause blood thinning.
5. Avoid food supplements that may lead to excessive bleeding during surgery.

The reason for the prerequisites listed above is to eliminate excessive bleeding during the surgery. During the transplant, more than a thousand tiny incisions are made on the scalp. Immediate blood clotting is crucial while the surgery is in progress to prevent the scalp from bleeding profusely. This also reduces the loss of blood from the patient and also helps the surgeon perform the procedure more effectively.

Aspirin and other over-the-counter medications, as well as certain vitamin supplements like vitamin E, lessen the ability of blood to clot, which can lead to excessive bleeding while the surgery is being performed. Extra bleeding during micrografting prolongs the surgery, although it is not a relative medical danger.

Some surgeons administer certain medications during surgery to reduce the amount of bleeding. It is better, however, for the patient to take the additional course of action to ensure a successful surgery as well as a speedy recovery.

Following your appointment for surgery, you'll be given a prescription for pain control and antibiotics to be used after the operation. The best time to go to the pharmacy and get your prescription is before the surgery. On the day before the procedure, remember to make a courtesy call to the doctor's office to confirm your appointment and time of arrival.

On the morning of your surgery, wash your hair with a mild shampoo. Avoid using conditioner or anything else on your hair. Make sure you eat light before your surgery, unless your surgeon instructs you otherwise. A light snack includes an apple or a banana. Do not take nicotine or caffeine and do not drink too much liquid. Wear warm, comfortable clothes such as jogging suits with a zippered top because most operating rooms can be very cold, especially if you are lying down still for a few hours. Layers of clothing is preferred so you can easily adjust to the temperature if needed.

Hair loss occurs in a progressive nature. Most men have a specific pattern in which hair starts to fall out and then over the years increases down the same route. Women on the other hand, do not typically have the same experience. Unlike a receding hairline, or a particular bald spot forming on a man's scalp, a woman will generally experience broad hair thinning throughout the entire top of her head. In both cases, men and women, the pattern in which air falls out increases in time.

Many people assume that losing hair as we age is just a normal part of life. This same group of people also assumes that we have no responsibility when it comes to the cause of hair loss or the increased of the amount of hair that is lost in time. However, this is a wrong assumption. Below are a few examples of how people can directly cause the loss of their hair, whether they realize it or not.

1. Wearing hats most of the time: It is very fashionable these days to sport head coverings and tight caps. However, because hats can affect the blood flow to the scalp, this may cause hair loss. This is especially true if you wear tight hats. The result of hair loss due to covering your scalp with a hat does take time to make it's effects known, but once it starts, the pattern of loosing your hair speeds up faster than if you had never started the hat-wearing habit.

2. Oily scalp: Here is another example of a condition that can be directly related to the decrease amount of blood flow that is available to your hair follicles. By not washing your scalp enough a build up of natural skin oils can affect your hair. Regular washing can help reduce this problem.

3. Brushing your hair too much: This is one issue that I have personally experienced myself. I was once told by a hairstylist that if I want to grow my hair long then I should brush it with 50 strokes every time I went into the bathroom. Needless to say, after about six months, I noticed severe thinning in the areas that I was brushing. Once I stopped, the hair eventually started to come back like normal. Unfortunately, I set forth in motion a pattern that caused my hair to grow back thinner in that area for the rest of my life.

4. Brushing your hair too little: Opposite of brushing your hair too much, by not brushing your hair enough, you may not be stimulating the right amount of blood flow needed to retain growth in hair follicles. It doesn't take much, but just brushing your hair with a few strokes that hit the scalp will be enough stimulation.

Many men and women who experience hair loss choose to have surgical treatments which can prove to be very successful in alleviating the appearance of baldness. Some examples of such operations that can help with people suffering from hair loss are scalp reductions, scalp lifts, and hair transplants that involve micrograft procedures.

When a person chooses to have a scalp reduction done, the surgery involves removing small areas of baldness from the scalp. Scalp lifts, on the other hand, are when very large areas of the hairy sections of a person's scalp is removed and rotated to other areas that are bald. And then there is the micrograft procedure which involves replacing bald patches with hair follicles that are moved from one area of the scalp to another.

Each of these hair loss surgical treatments take time until the results can be fully appreciated. There is no such thing as having just one or two treatments done, and expecting a full head of hair. It typically can take months before enough of the procedures have added up to produce a noticeable and long-lasting "growth of hair" effect on a person's head.

What is the most common surgical procedure done for scalp injuries?

When a person has had an accident and suffers tremendous hair loss due to a scalp injury, scalp reduction is the most common form of surgery that is used. Unlike micrograft treatments, which will help the appearance of a person's balding problem over time, scalp reductions are used because a portion of the scalp needs to be cut out. The edges around the patch of skin that was removed will be pulled and sewn together.

Do most people who are suffering from hair loss choose to have scalp reduction in order to make a faster change in appearance?

Although this procedure was very common for people with hair loss in the past, those men and women who have not suffered from a scalp injury and are looking to add hair follicles to balding areas will always opt for micrograft treatments.

After it was accidentally discovered that minoxidil can induce hair growth, the product called Rogaine was born in 1988, which is essentially minoxidil in a lotion form that is applied directly to the scalp. At that time, Rogaine was only available by prescription and the active ingredient was at a low 2%.

Fast-forward to 1995: The food and drug administration deemed Rogaine to be safe enough to be sold without a prescription in most pharmacies as well as standard grocery stores. This spawned the creation of similar generic products that also contained the ingredient in minoxidil. The owners of such products eventually increased the active ingredient dosage from 2% to as high as 5%. and this was a smart move because the higher dosage actually created faster results so both the customer and the product owners were happy.

What causes Rogaine to work?

As stated above, Rogaine causes hair growth as a result of the drug minoxidil. Although we know that minoxidil works well, researchers are still unsure as to the exact reason why minoxidil can create strands of new hair to grow on areas of the scalp that have been bald for years.

One theory was that minoxidil had an impact on DHT levels better in the blood. If you are unfamiliar with DHT, it is simply a form of testosterone that affects sensitive hair follicles as a person ages. However, it became known that minoxidil had absolutely no effect on DHT levels.

The one characteristic that minoxidil has on the body is that it helps in large blood vessels, commonly referred to as a "vasodilator". But, again researchers are baffled because it is not proven that hair growth is caused by any vasodilators.

What we do know is that the minoxidil reduces the speed at which hair follicles shrink and it also causes hair follicles that have shrunk to start growing full-size hair strands again. This drug also keeps hair that is currently in a growth stage to remain that way for an extended period of time. In other words, minoxidil can help keep hair follicles in the "anagen phase" of hair regeneration longer than it normally would have. And of course, if your hair remains in this growth phase of the regeneration process for a longer period of time, the results are thicker and longer hair.

Hair loss is, for many patients, a major emotional problem. Their once youthful looks appear to rapidly descend as they lose their hair, and with some, their self-confidence. However, there are more causes for concern with hair loss, such as the presence of other conditions which may be causing the symptoms, which subsequently must be diagnosed and treated effectively. It is of vital importance to consult an expert physician to assist with diagnosis and help organise an effective programme of treatment for the symptoms, and any potential underlying causes of the hair loss, or irritation.

A particular condition which can give rise to hair loss is that of flocculates. This is the infection and inflammation of hair follicles, which can take course anywhere there is hair, particularly on the scalp, legs and in the nose, and can cause significant itching ad discomfort for those who suffer from it.

Resembling small red pimples, folliculitis can cause itchiness and soreness, and result in crusty sores. To treat this condition, it is common for a prescription of antibiotics to try to eradicate the bacterial cause of the symptoms. If patients suffer from recurrences of this condition, it is less beneficial to take a course of antibiotics, and more advisable to ingest some more targeted medication, such as minocycline, which can be taken for up to five weeks, or some form of active lotion to calm the infected area. If the patient has sensitive skin, it is important to avoid friction from clothing or from excessive rubbing of the area, as this will serve to further aggravate the condition and lead to further hair loss and damage. Additionally, moisturising cream in the area may also help to cool the itching and soreness, and prevent the scratching which causes excessive hair loss, which will ultimately help keep the condition at bay until further medical assistance and treatment can be sought.

The condition can be found in any one of any age, although is often the result of shaving on sensitive skin, or similar. The hair loss caused by this condition is the result of the scratching and itching brought on by the infection. Additionally, the damage caused to the hair by the infection makes it more brittle and far more susceptible to damage and sudden loss.

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, self help measures such as moisturising and avoiding frictional contact can go a long way to reducing the hair loss this condition induces. However, it is undoubtedly of most benefit to consult your physician over the matter. Your physician will be trained to competence in all matter surrounding hair loss, and will be able to effectively diagnose your condition and propose treatments. He will also help calm your fears, and sooth your symptoms until effective recovery can take place. If you are at all worried about the symptoms you are experiencing it is always advisable to visit your physician for a general health check, and analysis of your physical state at that time.

Having a full head of hair is very important as it creates a unique style to every individual and it is usually one of the first things that a person will notice when they look at you. As we get older, men and women would like to look as good as they feel. Keeping a youthful appearance is a natural desire and when hair loss becomes a reality, finding a solution that will make a person feel more secure about the way they look is an understandable priority.

If you are reading this article then the chances are high that you're seeking out advice on the best way to solve your hair loss problem. One concern that you probably have is wondering what type of person seeks out a way to fix their balding problem. Is it vanity? Is it in security? Is there anything wrong with being embarrassed by going bald?

The answer to all three of those questions is a definite "no". It is a perfectly normal part of the human attitude to fulfill your desire to look your best. And as everybody knows, when you are looking your best, you also feel your best. Having an attitude of confidence is an important element of life that carries over into all successes.

Instead Of Looking For A Solution, Try Being Proud Of Your "New Look"

If you look at any magazine stocked on grocery shelves or just sit and watch TV for a little while, it is very easy to pick up on the fact that the media portrays our society as one that must fit some sort of perfect "mold" when it comes to appearance. This is especially true if you look at hair styles. You will rarely see pictures of men with thinning hair and women that are shown representing any product or other entertainment piece will never portray hair loss symptoms of any sort.

However, many people do not let these images affect them and the way they feel about losing their hair. You may or may not be one of these people, but it is important to know that it is perfectly acceptable if you embrace your baldness or hair thinning, and just let nature take its course.

A person that is comfortable with the way they look in terms of hair loss never wastes any time being preoccupied with the issue. It is just one of those facts of life that they feel should be accepted. Like any situation in life that changes, you have the ability to adjust, except, and move on, while being completely happy with how God made you, regardless of how much hair you lose.

Although we do not completely understand how hair loss and baldness is passed down through our genetics, what we do know is that some individuals have hair follicles that are supersensitive to the "DHT" that runs through the blood. DHT is a hormone that stands for "dihydrotestosterone".

DHT is an androgen, created from testosterone, and is considered a male hormone. And even though this is a male hormone, women also have a small amount that runs through their blood, some higher than others. When a female inherits hair follicles that are supersensitive to DHT, they start to lose hair just like men do.

When a person inherits the genes for hair loss, their hair follicles are also sensitive to DHT in other ways. Not only does a person's hair fall out, they also inherited hair follicles that, when regenerated through the three growth cycles, grow strands of hair that come back thinner and with less pigmentation. This phenomenon also clears up the mystery behind why some people have thinning hair that seems to change color as the person ages.

In other words, it is perfectly normal for everybody's hair to grow and then shed, and then regrow back again. This allows the hair to reenter the anagen phase, then the catagen phase, and finally the telogen phase, which results in a new strand of hair. But now, since a person's hair follicles are sensitive to the DHT in the blood supply, it prevents the hair from regenerating to its normal size after each repetitive growth cycle. They come back smaller and smaller. In time, a person's scalp will contain hair so small that it resembles fuzz, which can barely be seen, hence becoming "bald".

Don't Be Too Discouraged To Find Out You Are Loosing Your Hair

Although being genetically predisposed to hair follicles that are sensitive to DHT may seem like a no-win situation, there is still hope! For starters, anybody who is experiencing hair loss can improve their look by carefully styling their hair in a way that does not emphasize this loss of hair.

There are also many hair care products on the market that can help give the appearance of extra hair. And if you really wanted to make an improvement, there are many high-quality wigs and hairpieces that look as real as a natural head of hair.

Also, medications exist that are widely available that are designed to help protect sensitive hair follicles that are affected by DHT. Some medications can even help by reducing the amount of DHT in a person's bloodstream, which will help slow down the process of hair loss.

Although there is no "magic bullet" for everyone in terms of medication for hair loss, there have been amazing results with medication where patients experienced a total reversal of their hair loss and actually stopped the process!

On the day of your micrograft transplant surgery, make a plan to have someone drive you to the doctor's office. Also make a plan to have someone pick you up. To ensure your safety, doctors will not let you drive yourself home because you may still feel drowsy, a bit disoriented, and your coordination may still be off.

Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment in case you need to take care of paperwork. Before the surgery, you will be given a surgical dress to put on over your clothes. You will also be given certain medication prior to your surgery. This may include a tranquilizer and other types of medication to minimize swelling and pain. Use the bathroom even if you don't need to go. This will eliminate the inconvenience of having to stop in the middle of the surgery because you have to use the bathroom.

Your doctor will again explain the procedure to you. He will mark your scalp in the specific area to be treated and take photos. You will then be taken to the operating room where you will be lying face down on a special surgical bed that is specifically made for your comfort and to keep you in place during the surgery.

Your doctor will begin by trimming a narrow section of your hair that is covering the back of your scalp. Next, using an antiseptic solution, the doctor will clean the scalp on the back of your head. He or she will then numb the donor area by injecting it with anesthesia. The first injection will be slightly uncomfortable and you will feel a sting, which will last very briefly. The medication that you took a few minutes ago will begin to kick in, making you feel more relaxed and calm. Your scalp will also start to feel numb and will continue to feel that way until after the surgery.

The surgeon will also inject the donor area with saline solution. The saline solution will help swell up the donor area, which makes it easier to remove the section of tissue. Your doctor will then take out that section of tissue using a single blade scalpel and pass it over to a group of medical assistants. The medical assistants will then cut the tissue into follicular unit micrografts. During this time, the doctor closes the open section of your scalp with sutures and puts a bandage over the closed wound while applying a soft pressure to lessen the bleeding. At the same time, the medical assistants will cool and trim the transplant tissue and form hundreds of follicular unit micrografts, a process that will take a few hours to finish.

The section of your head where the grafts will be placed will be numbed and the doctor will make very small slits to place the follicular unit micrografts. The surgeon will plant the grafts in places that enables them to grow in a natural pattern. Once that area is filled, the doctor will begin to work on the next site. During this time, many more follicular unit micrografts are being cut by the medical assistants. The surgery will be finished when all the graphs are planted into all the designated sites.

There are a wide range of potential causes of hair loss in patients. As hair loss can be a potential indicator for conditions such as diabetes, it is essential that effective and accurate diagnosis is made as early as possible to ensure that any underlying conditions are treated effectively and promptly. Having said that, the causes of hair loss can be somewhat more benign, ranging from stress to mere aging, so it is important to strike a balance between caution and sensibility. A good idea is to firstly look at your family to determine genetic qualities which may leave you open to hair loss. If you are a male of middle age, and other males within your family saw similar symptoms at a similar age, it is likely you are genetically programmed to see hair loss and baldness. Embracing this can be difficult for many males, although there are numerous options available to disguise its progression.

If you are suffering from hair loss which is unexplained, or unsuspected, it is also worth knowing that stress through traumatic experience, or operation can also cause the loss of hair, and again this is perfectly natural, and the effects will last only a short period for normal hair growth cycles will resume. Additionally, hormonal imbalances as a result of disease of the thyroid gland, or even pregnancy can lead to the loss of hair in both men and women at any age.

By ill-treatment of the hair, patients can also experience a degree of hair loss which is the result of damage to the scalp of to the hair follicles, and by reversing the damaging treatment, such as chemical perms or tight hair styles, you should again see a recurrence of natural hair growth within a short period of time. Certain vitamin and mineral deficiencies, or even a surplus of vitamin A can also cause symptoms of hair growth, and the appropriate diagnosis of such can be particularly beneficial for redress, and for the body as a whole which relies on these substances to remain healthy.

If hair loss is small and patchy, with oily or red areas where the hair used to grow, this can be a strong indication of ringworm, or conditions such as alopecia, which require medical intervention to reverse their symptoms. Through effective treatments of these conditions, you can see the resumption of normal hair growth patterns fairly quickly, which will result in effective coverage of the problematic areas.

If you are suffering from hair loss, it is usually a good idea to visit your doctor. He will be better placed to determine the symptoms on which to base diagnosis, and will ultimately be more capable of offering effective treatment for the underlying problems, rather than addressing the symptoms specifically. This will ensure longer term results, and will halt the progress of any more serious conditions which could be causing these symptoms. A specialist consultant may also be involved to assist with diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment for the patient's specific needs.

Hair loss, although highly emotionally damaging and stressful, doesn't have to be a major problem. By altering your lifestyle, you can significantly improve the condition of your hair, and go some way to ensuring effective coverage of any thin hair areas. Firstly, if you notice the emergence of hair loss consult your physician. This will allow for effective diagnosis of the underlying problems of your condition, and will allow for implementation of a treatment programme, where applicable, to help with your symptoms and attempt to strengthen and thicken your hair growth. Secondly it is important to keep in regular contact with your physician throughout, to monitor progress and effectiveness of treatment and potentially uncover better ways of dealing with the situation you are facing.

In addition to following treatment protocol, it is also advantageous to consider some form of temporary coverage. Particularly effective are the modern wigs manufactured for this very reason. Forget the image of obvious, itchy old carpets. Modern wigs are made with lightweight technology, and strive to minimise discomfort and itching. Furthermore, they made to look as realistic as possible, and are very effective at covering up hair loss of any form, for any patient. Although this may not be the ideal situation, take comfort in the fact that it doesn't have to alter the course of your life, and you can easily look as stylish in a wig as with your own hair. If you decide not to go for a wig, you may also like to consider hats and other headwear as a temporary solution, and again, these will go some way towards covering up hair loss in the short term.

Similarly, some use make up, or even cut their remaining hair to create a certain fashionable look. This may be more applicable to males however, as a common hairstyle, rather than females, although there are certain socio-cultural female circles which would deem this attractive and stylish.

Above all, it is important to be sure that you don't let your hair loss ruin your life. It is most probably a temporary experience, and will likely grow back with the start of your new natural growth cycle. Hair loss is a constant process, as is hair growth, and only in extreme circumstances will you see irreversible results. It's not the end of the world, and you're still the same person inside after all. Try to maintain your social life, and not dwell on your condition too much, as this will serve to further hinder your recovery and progress, and will only cause depression and sorrow. Additionally, try to maintain a healthy balanced diet and treat your remaining hair well. This will encourage effective growth and leave your hair healthier and stronger as it grows back. There are more serious conditions in the world, and your true friends will respect you regardless. Just remain confident in yourself, and your abilities as a person, and allow this to determine your self confidence, rather than your appearance, which isn't a major factor at the end of the day.

Are you losing your hair and looking for that quick solution that will magically make it reappear? Unfortunately, "quick fixes" do not exist when it comes to hair restoration. However, every day in this country there are men and women who fall for those old-fashioned advertising tricks and spend lots of money on products that are supposed to make hair more thicker or even grow new hair back entirely.

Let's be crystal clear on one thing: These products do not work! Regardless of how compelling the advertising is, these ripoff products will not make your hair grow back. They are a waste of your time, your money, and especially your hopes of improving the appearance of your scalp.

It's Easy To Believe Them

Before we continue to educate you about these bogus hair products, please know that while you may fall prey to scams that promise new hair growth, it can happen to anyone. Everybody has a certain wish or dream that they would love to have come true from a "magic potion". Just look at the diet and fitness industry. It is quite similar to the false advertising that goes into hair restoration products.

Millions of dollars are made every year from preying on people's insecurities and fears. Typically, these companies provide commercials that reel you in by making false claims as to why you're losing your hair in the first place. Then they initiate their own reasons as to how this problem can be solved with the use of whatever remedy they are trying to sell you. And it is human nature for people to desperately want to have faith that this hair loss product can be the answer to what they're looking for.

These Products Are Not Regulated By The FDA

If you do your research and look closely enough, you will find that these ripoff hair loss products are not actually regulated by the food and drug administration. This is because their products contain no ingredients that actually affect how the human body functions and does not require medical or scientific studies – although their packaging and advertising gives us this illusion.

When they start a marketing campaign, these bogus hair loss companies make sure that the commercials that are put on TV and the labels themselves give the "appearance" that it is backed up by scientific data. These marketing ploys are very careful to give the notion that it is a medically sound treatment for hair loss, but are extremely careful as to not make actual hair growth promises and claims that would be against the law.

Just like any medical treatment, finding the right doctor to perform your hair replacement surgery is important. You must feel comfortable with the physician, as well as his or her staff. In order to get to know the medical organization you are considering, you will need to participate in a consultation so that you can understand your current hair loss situation, and the doctor will also be able to qualify you according to the results of the examination.

Here are some of the most common scenarios that you will face during a hair loss treatment examination:

1. The doctor will make an assessment of the current state of your hair loss pattern. He will use standard hair loss charts in order to measure your condition. Two such charts are the Ludwig Scale (this chart is designed for women) and the Hamilton-Norwood Scale (designed for men).

2. The doctor will also take note of the flow, or "character" of your hair loss pattern for further evaluation. Such a report can tell the doctor important information such as: in what direction your hair is thinning towards, whether or not bald patches exist, the texture of the remaining hairs in certain bald spots (thick or thin, straight or curly), and the color of the thinning areas of your hair.

3. You will get a chance to see firsthand exactly what your hair loss will look like in the upcoming years. Doctors consider this a "glimpse into the future" at what the hair loss pattern will look like on your scalp. Sometimes this experience is not the most positive part of the examination for the potential patient. It's hard enough to know that you are losing your hair in the first place, so seeing the progression that you will undoubtedly face over the next 5 to 10 years can be a bit more disturbing.

You may be wondering why it is important or even necessary for your doctor to give you a preview of your hair loss pattern. But there is a very important reason for this, and that is because every good physician will provide a surgery that is based on the expectation of your natural hair loss as it will occur later in life. Without this knowledge, you may have a successful surgery today, but because the doctor didn't properly treat your scalp based on the pattern of hair loss that you will experience, the appearance of your scalp may become extremely unbearable in the future.

Hair loss in patients can be caused by a range of various factors. From genetic pre-disposition through to infection of the scalp, or more serious underlying conditions, excessive hair loss can occur for a vast number of reasons. In fact, it is common for everyone to lose around a hundred hairs every day through brushing and other contact with the hair, as well as those which naturally fall each and every day. Additionally, in times of stress, we see increasing numbers of hair lost from the scalp as our bodies try to deal with difficult situations.

It is commonplace for those undergoing surgery to face an excessive amount of hair loss up to three to four months after surgery, or after a major illness, which is a temporary effect of the stress of recovering from such. This type of hair loss is soon quick to turn around, and resume the normal cycle of hair growth after the stressful element, that is the recovery period, is over. Additionally, in some patients the cause of their excessive hair loss may be hormonal, particularly as a result of abnormal activity in the thyroid glands. Disease of the thyroid can be treated, and this may be the cause of hormonal inequalities within either male or female patients, of any age. As soon as the disease is treated, normal hair growth patterns should resume unless there are further causes of the patient's specific condition responsible for their hair loss. Again, the hormonal impact on hair loss can be seen in pregnant women, who commonly see hair loss after their pregnancy. This is the result of excess retention of hair during pregnancy, which would otherwise fall out if it wasn't for specific hormonal properties. As the hormonal balance returns to normal after the pregnancy, these hairs fall out as part of the ordinary hair growth cycle, causing the hair loss many pregnant women suffer.

It is also not uncommon for the cause of hair loss to lie in the unwanted properties of some other drug or medication, used to treat a completely separate condition. Birth control pills and antidepressants can cause symptoms of hair loss, as well as chemotherapy treatment for cancer, and excessive vitamin A content in the body. If this is the case, it is advisable to consult the physician responsible and ask for an alternative medication or some form of treatment to help dampen these effects. Additionally, infections of the follicles or scalp can cause hair loss, although again these are easily treated with selective medication.

Hair loss may also be an early symptom of some far more serious condition. It is for this reason that it is vital to consult your doctor immediately to report any sudden or unexpected hair loss. Hair loss is often an indication of diabetes or lupus, which benefit from early diagnosis and treatment, so it is important to visit your doctor without delay to help understand the root cause of your hair loss.

When it comes to having a hair transplant operation, the most important question that men usually ask are: "Can I grow my hair as long as I want and will it look natural?" This is indeed a good question for those men who have the surgery done and would like to continue to grow long, flowing hair. The good news is that, yes, your hair will look totally natural and you will be able to grow it as long you want.

When you undergo micrograft surgery, the new hair that has been utilized to replace balding areas physically grow from the scalp itself, just like your natural hair does. This ensures that no matter how long you grow your hair, it will look as good as the original follicles would have grown them.

During surgery, the doctor will transplant hair follicles from the back of your scalp area that are individually grafted into little incisions on the front of your scalp. Wherever these new follicles have been transplanted to, hair growth from this area will happen naturally, so long as they stay in place are are not cut or torn out from an accident.

The new hair that comes in as a result of micrografting surgery will not grow as fast as your normal hair would, but you can still look forward to at least inch of hair growth per month. It may take you a year or two to grow a considerable amount of hair, but you can be confident knowing that the result will look and feel fantastic as your new hair comes in.

Once your surgery is complete and a week or two has gone by, you will return to your physician for a checkup to make sure that the transplanted follicles are growing exactly as they should and are coming in naturally. So long as you have no complications that the doctor is aware of, the sutures of the donor area in the rear of your scalp will be removed. Once complete, you can grow your hair as long as you want without having to return to the doctor for checkups unless, as stated above, you experience an accident which causes the hair to be pulled out.

With constant advertisements claiming to improve the quality of hair, or even stimulate re-growth, it is important to understand the most effective medically proven methods of containing hair loss and ensuring healthier hair. Coupled with these advertisements come a number of common misconceptions as to the most effective ways to look after your hair, and things to avoid to maintain its thickness. The emotional distress which goes hand in hand with hair loss can cause serious problems for many sufferers, although the majority will benefit from simple lifestyle changes and changes to hair care in reducing and managing its excessive loss and making it look and feel healthier.

Many people are under the impression that dandruff, or similar irritations of the scalp do not lead to hair loss. In the case of dandruff, which is a result of fungal growth, this is certainly a contributory factor to the loss of hair, which can be irretrievably damaged by the scratching of the scalp brought on by the presence of the fungus. The fungus responsible for causing the condition is transferred through the air, and can commonly be detected which is why the problem is so widespread. To eradicate the condition would be simply unfeasible and impossible, given the quantities of the fungus found in the air which cause the itching and flakiness associated with the condition.

It is also a common misconception that by blow drying hair, we give it volume and body. This is certainly not the case, with the intense heat from the hair dryer causing serious damage to hair, making them brittle and fine, and ultimately encouraging their loss. On a similar vein rigorous towel drying can cause hair loss and scalp irritation, which is again bad for the overall condition of the hair.

The common fear that medicated shampoos have a negative effect on the hair has led to many patients living with the unnecessary discomfort of dandruff and an itchy scalp. This is simply not true, with the majority of like shampoos having beneficial properties for the overall quality of hair as well as treating these conditions, ultimately leading to healthier hair, and helping maintain the natural hair growth cycle.

Additionally, meagre alterations to diet, and aiming to reduce daily stresses can have a positive impact on hair growth. By eating a healthy balanced diet, you can be sure to keep your hair healthy and maintain the natural growth cycle thanks to the presence of all the appropriate vitamins and minerals. Healthy body generally equates to healthy hair, so it is important to ensure that you get all the nutrients you need to keep your hair loss at bay. Secondly, stress and trauma are major causes of hair loss, so it is important to try as far as possible to minimise these from your life. Stress can also negatively impact the body and influence other conditions, leading to heart attacks and strokes which should obviously be avoided. By making these simple changes to your lifestyle, you can reverse the symptoms of hair loss and encourage natural hair growth for healthier, longer lasting results.

Hair loss is a common part of growing old for many men across the world. Mainly thanks to genetic predisposition, baldness and hair loss are inevitable for many of those reaching middle. However, there are numerous conditions which can also give rise to hair loss in both men and women, as well as children. Although this may be an embarrassing time for anyone suffering from hair loss, there are numerous effective ways to make it less obvious, such as disguising the scalp with hats, wigs and scarves to cover any bald patches. Although not necessarily problematic for everyone, hair loss can indicate the presence of other, more serious conditions, so it is important to consult your physician straight away to minimise the chance of development and complication of certain potential causes.

Everyone undergoes a constant process of growing and shedding hair, which grows at a rate of one centimetre a month. However, traumatic experience, such as a major operation, or old age, or the presence of certain medical conditions can hinder the rate of growth and cause excess shedding of older hairs, resulting in baldness and thinning hair. Additionally, hair loss can be as a consequence of hormonal imbalance, and is a notable feature for many post pregnancy. This cause of hair loss can be treated with hormones to maintain the bodily balance, and restart the regular cycle of hair growth and loss.

There are a variety of treatments available depending on the type and cause of the hair loss in question. If your hair loss is as a consequence of medicine, you may be offered an alternative prescription to curb this side effect. If infection is your cause, identifying the infection and subsequently treating it can help the hair return to its natural cycle. Again, with hormonal imbalances, topping up with corresponding hormones can help revert the body back to within its natural limits which should help the problem. Furthermore, there are a range of medications which actually promote hair growth, and these are available over the counter and from your physician. However, it must be noted that with the use of these medicines, a six month period is required before seeing any notable improvement, and the additional side effects of these medications may also cause problems for some patients. If these treatments are unsuitable for your specific condition, there is always the availability of high quality wigs, which are almost impossible to differentiate from real hair, although these range greatly in price and quality.

If you are concerned about the onset of hair loss, or think there may be some underlying cause of your condition, it is highly advisable to contact your physician. He will be able to analyse your overall symptoms and make an effective diagnosis of any medical conditions you may have, and can subsequently arrange the best treatment programme to reverse your symptoms. This will also be a beneficial exercise to air any concerns or quash any anxieties you may have surrounding your condition, the symptoms and potential treatments for your condition.

Seeing hair loss in patients is demoralising for the medical profession. Feeling relatively helpless with limited treatment options, it is usually simply a case of reassuring patients their symptoms are not serious, and will subside within a few months as hair regrowth takes its course. Having said that, there is a great deal known about the causes of hair loss, allowing for particularly effective diagnosis of the varying degrees and types of the condition, which is opening the doorway to new treatments for patients suffering from these symptoms.

For conditions like folliculitis which cause hair damage and hair loss, there is a great deal of progress being made on the medicinal front, with new treatments under investigation to sooth and curb the scalp irritation and sores which cause the hair loss. Furthermore, research is underway into further underlying causes of the condition, and the impact of personal stress and trauma and a potential link between the two. The same can be said for alopecia areata, for which researchers are focussing efforts into finding more effective treatments for the root causes, rather than the present symptomatic treating medicines.

Likewise, research funds are being ploughed into areas such as the chemical causes of hair loss, and the logic behind TE, whereby hair is forced into early resting phase as a result of some form of stress of great discomfort. It is also of interest to see the progress of hair during this resting phase, and to learn more about the natural hair growth cycle and how certain hair loss symptoms interact with that.

Also under scrutiny is the potential for reversing the TE phase, to retain hair, which is a phenomenon often caused by hormonal imbalances in pregnant women, Although this raw link is obviously problematic, research is being conducted into potential ways to help patients with these symptoms through similar hormones responsible for retaining hair.

In the mean time, patients can take comfort knowing that wig technology is advancing at an ever increasing rate. Wigs, which were before uncomfortable and of poor quality, are now becoming more and more effective and user-friendly, with synthetic fibrous technologies working to ensure a more realistic appearance. They are also now significantly less irritating to the scalp, which until recently was a problem for many. It is reassuring to think of the realism in five or ten years, by which time there will hopefully be some form of more effective treatment for the underlying causes of these symptoms.

If you are at all curious about hair loss, or the various conditions from which you may be suffering, a good starting point would be the internet. There are vast amounts of information present surrounding conditions, their treatments and current research which should serve to further inform you about developments with your condition. Alternatively, your doctor will be able to advise on suitable current treatments, and give information on potentially new treatments for these symptoms, and the conditions which ultimately cause their presence.

Alopecia areata is an auto-immune disorder that causes significant hair loss in the scalp area as well as in the body area in some cases. It is estimated that nearly 2% of the population will be affected with this disease at one point or another in their lifetime. The majority of this 2% will experience hair loss due to an autoimmune disease in their childhood years.

For those people that have never gone through hair loss problems, It is hard for them to understand just how psychologically damaging it is to experience as a result of alopecia areata. Even though it is temporary, losing your hair so suddenly can be a huge distraction in a person's life. This can be even more devastating for a child.

Remedies And Treatment For Alopecia Areata

Unfortunately, when it comes to alopecia areata, medications used to prevent hair loss does not have much success. Examples of these medications are minoxidil lotion as well as injections of cortisone. And even though bald spots may be treated and are responding positively to that treatment, it does little to stop other bald patches from appearing in different areas on the scalp.

Even with today's technology and all the advancements in medicine, the best solution to dealing with hair loss that is a result of alopecia areata can be one of the following two ways:

1. Just accept the fact that you are losing your hair and develop confidence by shaving the rest and sport the "bald look" or,

2. Seek out a cosmetic option that you will be comfortable with, such as a wig, a partial wig, a hats, a scarf, or even a turban.

Be Careful About Using A Wig, They May Not Be The Best Choice

For a person who is considering buying a wig in order to cover up their bald spots, you must first take into consideration that they are very expensive. Also, the material that a wig is made of is structured extremely delicately, which makes it very fragile and can damage easily.

In addition, when it comes to children and wigs, the combination doesn't work so good in most instances. Children do not take care of wigs very well and will probably become very insecure about it. And other children and adults that are around a child who wears a wig tends to perceive that child in a different light, as if something is "wrong" with him or her. No parent wants their children to be treated as if something is wrong with them.

When you find you that you are loosing your hair, the very first thing you must do before you seek out hair loss treatment or surgery advice is to become educated on exactly what you're dealing with and first learn how normal hair grows. Doing so will take the mystery out of the "why" and the "how" as it pertains to hair loss.

Hair itself is made up of nothing but dead cells of protein. However, the hair follicle at the base is very much alive and this is the area of each strand of hair that gets the nourishment it needs from your blood supply. In other words, each hair follicle on your body is just like an organ that is designed to grow a single strand of hair. This growth goes through the following three phases:

1. The Anagen Phase: This first phase of hair growth is considered to be the growing phase. It starts out as a miniature hair follicle that has entered a new growth cycle. In its previous growth phase, it supported one strand of hair.

Now that it is entering a new cycle, it may or may not have shed this older hair. If the older strand is still attached, then it will eventually be pushed out by the new growth. At the base of the follicle, a brand-new hair bulb is formed. Dermal papilla cells that are located inside this hair bulb will induce growth of a new strand of hair.

2. The Catagen Phase: Now that the anagen phase is complete, the hair follicle will also begin to shrink. During this phase, the hair follicle begins to waste away and there is very little structure of the hair bulb. The hair follicle then loosens up and creates that "brushable" hair flow that exists on your scalp right now.

3. The Telogen Phase: Once the hair follicle has ceased shrinking, the next phase is known as the telogen phase which can last up to 12 to 15 weeks. During this phase, the follicles become inactive and hair shedding is experienced. This is very common and debunks the mystery behind all that hair that you see falling out in the tub or on your pillow case. In other words, some hair loss is very normal on a day-to-day basis. Once the telogen phase is over, the entire three-phase process begins again.

if you are concerned about future hair loss, or are currently in the process of losing your hair, then consider prescription medications as a possible cause to the problem. There are alarming amounts of reports on the number of prescription drugs that are known to cause hair thinning, as well as baldness. This is a side effect these drugs that everybody should ask their doctor about before taking them.

Before we go on, please make an important note here that not all prescription drugs will cause hair loss, so do not be afraid to take any recommendations from your doctor. And also, many cases of prescription drugs resulting in hair loss is temporary and last for just a few weeks to at most a few months. This is of course in regards to people that go off their medications during this time period.

Other factors should also be taken into consideration, such as the potency of the drug, the dosage amount, and an individual's unique response to the medication. While hair loss may be a side effect for one individual, it may not affect another person's hair follicles at all.

The following list are a few examples of prescription drugs that have been reported to cause hair loss in both men and women:

1. Drugs that lower cholesterol: There are many cholesterol-lowering drugs that pose a danger to cause hair loss as a side effect. One such example medication is called Lopid .

2. Blood Pressure medications: There are a few beta blocker blood pressure medications that have been reported to cause hair loss in some cases. A few examples of these drugs would be Corgard, lopressor, and Blocadren.

3. Parkinson's medications: Not all Parkinson's medications have been linked to hair loss, but one such example drug that has been known to affect a person's hair is called Dopar.

4. Arthritis medications: Some medications designed to relieve arthritis may cause hair loss. For example, naproxen, penicillamine, and methotrexate, are such drugs.

5. Blood thinners: Some blood thinners (anticoagulants) may cause hair loss, such as heparin and inderal.

When it comes to health and remedies for cosmetic-affecting diseases such as those that cause hair loss, many supplement companies take advantage of people's ignorance. They accomplish this by selling them pills and powders that supposedly can fix a hair loss problem by claiming their solution will adjust a nutritional deficiency when taken.

Unfortunately, hair loss due to nutritional deficiencies is extremely rare. In fact, there is really only one possible cause of hair loss that may result from nutrition and it is anemia. When a person is anemic, they experience a reduction in red blood cells and become very low in iron.

Anemia is also more prevalent in women as opposed to men. Researchers are not sure why, but they believe there is a link to a woman's diet which typically contains less red meat than men, and also they need more iron due to blood loss experienced during the monthly premenstrual cycle.

What Is The Connection Between Being Anemic & Hair Loss?

If you believe that your hair is falling out due to being anemic, the first step you must take is to have a blood test done which will test your "ferritin levels". Ferritin is a protein that circulates in your bloodstream and stores iron. By reading your ferritin levels, the doctor can measure your body's iron level.

If the blood tests come back positive and show that there is indeed a deficiency then the doctor must find out what exactly is causing this deficiency. You might think that supplementing with extra iron would help, but it is not likely to facilitate the prevention of hair loss. Your doctor will have to administer the right type of medications so that the iron you are taking will absorb correctly.

Other Ways You Can Lose Your Hair Due To Poor Nutritional Habits

As we stated earlier, it is very rare for a nutrition deficiency to directly cause the thinning or loss of your hair. However, with harmful diet practices you will also experience side effects that can indirectly cause hair loss. One such side effect is the experience of extreme nutritional disorders such as being anorexic or bulimic.

When a person experiences such harsh nutritional practices, such as going without eating for days or even weeks, or throwing up every meal ingested, the body reacts quickly to protect itself. By shooting out of hormones and other chemicals such as cortisol to guard itself as best it can against these bad habits, the body may also produce hair thinning and bald spots.
