Stress. What stress? Sometimes we can get so stressed out that we don't even notice it ourselves. It becomes part of the daily grind; and who has time for it anyway…you've got things to do, right? This may be true but if you do not mange your stress properly it will begin to manage you. Major sources of stress are related to work activities. Issues with competency, uncertainty, and communication can cause us to stress out daily at work and spill over into the home. Control is a factor that is greatly attributed to job stress. People with a great deal of responsibilities without a lot of control over decisions are the most at risk for stress related illnesses like heart failure. Communication problems thicken the pot and cause even more tension. Feeling a little unappreciated lately. If you do not feel supported by coworkers or management it may make resolving issues more difficult, causing even more stress. You may be new and uncertain of your responsibilities or there are too many recurring deadlines. Alright, more and more stress on the job.

Reducing some of this stress will benefit you and your employer. Meeting regularly with your manager or supervisor to discuss problem at least once a year to discuss performance and other issues that affect you on the job may help. Good time management skills and leaving your job at the office and don't give up any of your free time to catch up on work if you don't have to. Ahhh…a little relief. Know when to quit. If you are truly unhappy with your job think about changing careers and spend time researching other possibilities. Do the researches before you quit and find a less stressful job. Ahhhhhhhh…even more relief. Engage in much more physical activity to reduce stress and get fit so you are at least more equipped to handle stressors. Ahhhhhhhhh… it is relaxing even more. And last but not least take a vacation if needed and recharge by doing something that you really enjoy. Vacation! Ultimate relaxation achieved.

All might not play out exactly like the description just mentioned. The point here is to find ways to relax yourself. Ultimately there is no one to take better care of you than you. If you find that you are experiencing more tension than you can handle take immediate action to resolve whatever it is that is causing you so much stress and work on eliminating or decreasing them. So instead of letting the root of the problem continue unabated while you frantically try to get rid of the stress it creates, you should get to the root and eliminate whatever it is that is making you stressed. Even if it means changing your lifestyle dramatically, or quitting your job and living cheaply for a few months, it is worth it in the end since stress can be such a harmful thing. You can try talking to your employer to see if it would be possible to have a more relaxed work day. Tell him or her about your health issues that are resulting from stress.

Unless you are one of those individuals who thrive in a high pressure environment and positive results are evident in your health and performance there may be a big need for change. Stress can be the single cause of depression, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, and reek havoc on your family or behavior. Don't allow the advances in technology to separate you from your family and friends. Disconnect from cell phones and the internet and separate your time from the employers' time. Begin to enjoy the time you spend alone or with family and friends, enjoy that long book, take that weekend get away that you've been putting off for months. If you don't do any of these things, find a way to relax somehow, so that the effects of job related stress don't lead you straight to burnout and drain you out of your precious life.

There are many challenges you will have to face when dealing with chronic illness. If you have been diagnosed with having a long lasting health condition, then understanding it and learning what you can do yourself to manage it, can help greatly.

Having a chronic illness doesn't have to mean that it is dangerous or deadly, asthma, diabetes and arthritis are all classed as chronic conditions that can be kept under control with medication and supervision. Providing you take care and have the proper treatment, people with these conditions can lead a normal life and are healthy for the majority of time. Although the underlying condition won't go away and is always there, it can be controlled successfully.

Many people who have conditions such as asthma don't consider themselves as having a chronic condition as they feel relatively well most of the time and think of their illness as more of a condition. However, a few people are affected not only physically but also emotionally, socially and for some even financially. The severity of the way it affects you is based on the severity of your condition and the treatment involved in your particular condition. However you are affected by your condition it will take time to accept and adjust to your chronic illness.

There is a certain process that everyone will go through whatever their illness, this is known as the coping process. When first diagnosed with chronic illness the person may have many different feelings, anger, worry, confusion and vulnerability are some of the most common feelings. The next stage to the coping process is the want to know and learn everything they can about their illness, by gaining insight and knowledge into their condition it makes it less frightening and they feel more in control.

The third stage is developing confidence in the treatment they have been given for their condition. Realizing that their medication or treatment will help to relieve symptoms and attacks such as those associated with asthma and low blood sugar levels. Over time managing the condition becomes second nature and worry and fear drop off as the person becomes more confident with their self-management.

Everyone will go through the stages of coping at their own rate, recognizing the various feelings and thoughts as you go through different stages is important and are all part of the coping process. To help you get through the coping process you should remember these tips.

* Accept any feelings and thoughts – there are many emotions you may go through during the coping stage, it is important that you just let them come and go without giving them too much thought. Letting the feelings out by talking with someone can be a great release.
* Ask questions and play an active role in self-care – make sure that you know everything about your illness that you possibly can, the unknown can be frightening, but what we know we can deal with much better. Learn what you can do to help your condition and what to do during the bad times of it.
* Talk about your condition – remember other family members or loved ones will probably be going through similar feelings as you are after the diagnosis. Talk with family members and loved ones about your condition, don't leave them out of the loop
* Keep a perspective – when first diagnosed it can be easy to let your illness take over your life and become the most important thing, keep things in perspective and carry on living your life just as you did before.

Everyone becomes down or sad at times. Life events, or just a bad day can sometimes make us upset, and small things like bad traffic can make us irritable. But when a person experiences constant feelings of sadness and irritability, is exhausted with little or no activity, decreases in social activity or participating in usually enjoyable activities, that person maybe depressed. Symptoms of a depressed person include low self esteem, changing or irregular sleeping patterns, or spending lots of time thinking about things that have gone wrong. At this point in time there is no one known cause for depression, however some theories and studies indicate that severe cases of depression stem from events such as financial problems, relationship troubles, or the loss of a loved one. Sometimes the person's depression may stem from a trouble childhood or family conflict, especially ones that have to deal with parenting issues or between parents. Other times it could be a completely spontaneous mental problem that arises from seemingly nothing.

Women are twice as prone to depression as men. Women deal with more hormonal factors that give them a predisposition to becoming more likely to be depressed. Factors such as menstrual cycle, miscarriages, premenstrual syndrome and menopause all contribute to the increase in likelihood of a woman becoming depressed. Outside stressors and tensions of caring for children, overworking, and single parenthood is a definite factor in the episodes of depression in women as compared to men. That is not to say that men don't experience their fair share of stresses. Many men become depressed when they go through issues such as family court, job layoffs, or other huge disappointments.

Although there is no conclusive tests to diagnose depression, a good assessment of a person's family history or inquires involving physical or chemical abuses that may contribute to the patient's current mood. Once a diagnosis of some form can be completed most doctors will attempt to treat the depression with medications therapy or a combination of both. The importance of treatment should be stressed as a person who goes without treatment may experience continued negative affects in normal daily functioning, or even violence. Suicide attempts or trying to hurt someone else are all possibilities if the illness is gone untreated for too long. Treatments are usually a combination of drug therapy and professional counseling that requires immense family support. Anti-depressive drugs may be prescribed and have proven to be very successful in the treatment of depression. The family's support of the person who is coping with symptoms of depression is vitally important to recovery. Expressions of love, appreciation and normal communication should be the role of the family in the treatment of the person experiencing a depressive state. Other treatments are simple and only require adequate sleep, regular exercising, avoiding illegal drugs and alcohol, and eating a healthy diet. Depression is a serious problem that can be treated effectively if caught before severe depression has began to set in. Take the steps now to prevent serious or fatal consequences if you think that you or someone you know is depressed.

If you are feeling depressed yourself, then you should take action. You may have something stressful in your life. If so, remove it. Our time on life is short, and there is no reason why anyone should spend their precious time worrying about something.

When it comes to staying or getting into good shape, motivation may be hard to come by. As the seasons change so do our motivation to stay in shape. Holiday schedules, cold winter days, and all those convient gadgets that keep us from drudging up the motivation to get in shape or maintain a daily routine of exercise are definite culprits. But we should be totally aware of the effects that inactivity has on the body.

Heart disease, stroke or diabetes is just some of the unhealthy affects of inactivity in the body. The good news is that studies show without discrepancy that these affects can be prevented or reversed; meaning that switching from a sedentary lifestyle to an active one can be extremely beneficial over time. Exercise alone, without change in diet, can greatly reduce the risks for these diseases even in small amounts. Doing what ever you can to increase your motivation to exercise is the first step to overcoming the lack of motivation to actually do it. Any of the arrays of methods to motivate you will be of great importance. Listening to music while running, simply finding out the exercises that you truly enjoy, setting particular times when exercise is the main focus of the day, all help you to stay motivated to stay in motion. Developing a habit or pattern for exercising is the best way to stay motivated; your body will become accustomed to working out heavy at a certain time each and every time. Your mind posses the ability to create positive ideas that leads to positive actions allowing you to live a strong and healthy life. Positive self talk can do wonders for motivation as well as just viewing the results of previous attempts (i.e. thinner waistline, six pack, etc). Self encouragement is the ultimate motivation. You'll have no one to thank but yourself.

Fitness motivation is the essential part of changing your body, so creating a fitness motivation plan maybe the answer for you. For men, setting goals and providing adequate challenges work best. Changing scenery from indoors to outdoors may be the answer. If you just don't feel like exercising or giving up on an established routine, constantly reminding yourself that the pay off is great will help. Psychological benefits like increased confidence, self-esteem, and relief from anxiety, stress and depression and better sexual performance can be all the motivation that's needed. Remaining realistic about your goals will also aid in the fight to stay motivated to exercise. Setting a goal that is extremely difficult to obtain is depleting and counterproductive. Achieving a challenging appropriate goal boosts pride, satisfaction and will create more motivation.

Making the exercise routine fun by adding variety in routines, exercises, or persons that you exercise with is a likely way to stick to any exercise routine.

If you are not particularly knowledgeable when it comes to fitness issues, you should consider hiring a professional trainer to help you out with your routine. This can take a lot of the mystery out of getting fit, as your trainer will custom tailor exercises and routines for your bodily needs, so as to maximize the results that you see. This is a slightly costly thing to do, so you should be sure about your commitment to exercising before you spend money to hire a personal trainer. You can also use the amazing technology of the internet to tap the brains of professionals. There are many different blogs that are updated daily with exercise routines that anyone can do.

So setting attainable goals, adding things to increase enjoyment of the exercise routine, challenges, and the addition of a buddy to assist are all great ways to stay motivated, stay fit, and most importantly stay moving. You will benefit in the short term, and in the long run as well with physical and mental benefits in almost every way.

To gain benefits from cycling you don't have to be super fit, an athlete or anything of the sort. The benefits of bicycling are great and it is a fun way to get that much needed exercise.

Weight loss and bicycling

If you are trying to shed a few pounds, dieting alone very rarely works out in the long term, however doing more exercise on a regular basis works wonders. If you cycle on a daily basis then it will not only help you burn a large number of calories during your workout but it will also raise your metabolism and help you burn more calories throughout the day. Cycling along a flat road or path at 12 mph will help you to burn off roughly 450 calories an hour, and even when you stop your metabolism is still speeding ahead, helping to you burn calories quicker.

Not only can cycling help you to lose weight and keep it off, it is also beneficial health wise. By cycling at least 20 miles per week you can help to reduce the risk of developing heart disease by half compared to those who don't cycle.

Health benefits of bicycling

Cycling is classed as an aerobic form of exercise; this is a type of exercise that is particularly beneficial to the lungs and heart. Your lungs expand with the effort of pedaling, which allows you to get more oxygen into your body; this in turn makes your heart beat faster to send the oxygen throughout your body. If you develop powerful lungs and a strong heart then you are well and truly on your way to fitness.

Just by cycling a few miles per day you will soon begin to feel fitter and healthier, you will see your muscles beginning to tone. You thigh, backside and calf muscles will gain the biggest benefit from cycling, as these are the muscles that you will use the most, but overall you will find yourself in much better shape. Perhaps you will find that you no longer get winded walking up a flight of stairs. However, the best part is, that the more you bicycle, the more you will enjoy it and look forward to your next outing.

Bicycling can also be beneficial when we are feeling down or if we suffer from stress, anxiety or depression. When we exercise we release what are known as endorphins into our bloodstream, endorphins bring about a feeling of happiness and contentment and are a great way to combat stress and depression. Cycling can be done almost anywhere by anyone, if you live in towns or the countryside there is always somewhere to bicycle. It doesn't have to be expensive and is a relatively safe sport, when you follow the few simple guidelines and can be enjoyed as a family.

Here are a few simple tips to help you get the most out of cycling

* Always carry a puncture repair kit
* Make sure you take a water bottle with you especially on long rides in the countryside
* Keep your tires pumped up to the required level to make cycling easier
* For safety always make sure you wear a bicycle helmet
* Always have lights and reflectors on your bike to make sure you are seen
* When cycling at night wear bright colors or preferably some sort of reflective material

Enhancing the quality and length of your life by quitting smoking is a worthwhile effort. It is definitely not an easy task, but it can be accomplished with time and patience. To quit smoking successfully, finding out what your options are. Knowing where to go for help is a wise first step. Quitting smoking is the best move that you can make for your health and the health of all of those around you. Just about everyone knows by now that smoking causes diseases that shorten your life or those that may even end it. Diseases such as lung cancer, throat, esophagus, bladder, and kidney, and pancreas cancers are some horrible things caused by smoking for a start. Not to mention some leukemia, stomach, and cervix cancers, and newly added by the Surgeon General is pneumonia. People who smoke are more than three times as likely to die due to heart attack as non smokers. Smoking is a major risk factor for a disease that narrow the blood vessels that transport blood to the limbs and muscles called peripheral vascular disease as well as the disease that causes some strokes.

If that's not enough to convince you to stop smoking, let's look at your appearance. Premature wrinkling of skin, chronic bad breath, discolored fingernails and hair, and an increase risk of macular degeneration a leading cause of blindness in the elderly. Smoking over the age of thirty-five if you are a woman can put you in a high risk group for stroke, heart attack, and blood clots of the legs, low birth weight of babies and miscarriages. But the hopeful portion of this message is that if you decide to quite regardless of how long you've smoked or how much, quitting will help you to live longer. In as little as twenty minutes after quitting smoking the heart rate and blood pressure drops and in one to nine months following quitting smoking, circulation in your hands extremities and lung function increases. Shortness of breath decreases and your lungs begin to function properly, cleaning the lungs and removing mucus that causes infection. Fifteen years of non smoking and your risk of heart disease is that of non smoking persons. These benefits can be obtained from quitting smoking even if you are suffering from a smoking related illness already. Smoking is less socially accepted now more than ever. Smoking bans have been placed in just about every workplace in the nation along with airports, public buildings. Even friends may insist that you not smoke in their houses or cars. Some people may even find dating more difficult because of a bad smoking habit. So the social impacts of not smoking will probably change your life for the better if you quit.

If you have a family, that is another great motivation to quit smoking. The main reason is that the secondhand smoke could pose serious health problems for others who do not deserve such things. You should also consider what kind of role model you are being to any small children that you live with, whether they are your own kids, siblings, nieces and nephews, or any other relation. You may be living with kids who look up to you as an authority figure, and if you teach them that smoking is alright you will feel very guilty later in life.

Some of the many new products used to help an individual to stop smoking are really very effective. Counseling services, reading materials, medicines, and patches are all widely available and have produced some amazing results. Educational materials alone may be the best beginning start to an attempt to quit because once you know what kind of damage you are doing to your body the prudent and reasonable person will definitely see that it is the very best thing to do. However, it has been documented and researched that the highest success rates occur when a combination of methods are used simultaneously. Take the time and do it for yourself and your loved ones, quit for life.

Uterine artery emobilization (UAE) is a minimal invasive procedure aimed at shrinking fibroids in women diagnosed with having fibroids. Rather than removing them surgically, the procedure shrinks the fibroids avoiding hysterectomy or myomectomy (removal of the fibroids alone) to eliminate symptoms such as pelvic pain and/or heavy bleeding.

Although an attractive alternative to a hysterectomy to treat fibroids, AEU prevents the need to go through the pains following a hysterectomy. because a hysterectomy is the cure to fibroids. The fibroids will definitely not come back as there will no longer be a place for the fibroids to grow. Specially trained doctors use imaging techniques to see inside the uterus while guiding a narrow tube through blood vessels. The UAE procedure then shrinks the fibroid eliminating all of its blood supply. Plastic particles are then injected into the arteries to plug them perfectly blocking the blood supply. However, this procedure is not full proof as the possibility of the fibroids growing back or in other places is not diminished making more surgery necessary if they return. AEU effectively spares the uterus and cuts down on hospital time, and recovery is fairly fast.

Other options to remove fibroids include Hysteroscopy resection, which use electric currents shaving the fibroid from the uterus breaking them into pieces which can then be removed through the vagina. There is some concern in this procedure that particles from the pieces may enter other organs and affect them in a negative manner. But for women the procedure that does not require surgery is most sought after for fibroid removal and avoidance of hysterectomy. AEU is very effective and rarely is there any complications and usually results in a lighter menstrual bleeding and pelvic pressure that causes pain. The only reportable side effects following surgery is nausea, committing, and some mild cramping for a limited amount of time making this the most cost and time effective procedure available today.

If you think that this procedure might be an attractive choice for you, then you should consult your doctor and ask about options with local surgeons. Most hospitals now offer this treatment because of its effectiveness, but some seem to be stuck in the past. You also need to find out whether or not your particular fibroids are operable using this method, since some cases make it too complicated or difficult to do.

Many women have for several years debated the idea that hysterectomy is the only option for women with fibroid problems prompting doctors to look to alternative measures. It is important to know that there are other options available and each one should be examined carefully before a decision is made to have a hysterectomy. The location, size, number of fibroids and activity of the fibroids should me one of the determining factors in the decision to treat fibroids. Estrogen feeds the fibroids and it is well known that fatty tissue produces large amounts of estrogen, so if you are overweight additional factors may need attention in order to make an educated decision. Whatever the decision is that you make concerning the treatment of fibroids take into consideration all of your options before you take the word of someone, doctor, or others who try to tell you that Hysterectomy is the only option.

Candlelight dinners, sweet gifts, and soft music are some things people do to initiate intimate relations. But can exercise work just as well and contribute to a healthy sex life? According to the American Council on Exercise it can. Heating your sex life can be accomplished through maintaining a good exercise regimen improving sexual function in both men and women. Exercise is not only a physical but mental activity much like sex is. Exercise can enhanced sexuality because of the benefits gained in muscle strength, endurance, and cardiovascular functioning. Increased performance of blood flow and increased levels of testosterone levels all lead to a robust and energetic sex life. Studies published in the Electronic Journal of Human Sexuality conclude that people who regularly exercise have a better perception of themselves, and are more confident in their physical abilities, and find themselves more sexually attractive which all add to feelings of competency in love making. They also experience higher levels of satisfaction or may feel more sexually desirable to the opposite sex.

For men, a good healthy body contributes to a good healthy erection and reduction of the risks for impotency. Adding years to a man's life, exercise increases blood flow allowing for better erections with a more than 30 percent lower risk of impotence than men who do not regularly exercise. Because good circulation is necessary for good sexual functioning, it stands to reason that performance is enhanced with better circulation and increased blood flow to organs used when having sex. On the other hand, men who are obese or overweight have mental and physical limitations that interfere with the positive affects of good circulation. They may feel less adequate when having sex, or experience difficulty with the physical demands of sexual activity. Slimming down is a great ego boost, and it gets some of the "extra baggage" out of the way.

For women, a good exercise program could have a positive effect on their sex loves with increase enthusiasm, cardio, and muscular endurance as well. Females may find that they are able to hold positions for longer periods of time and enjoy longer lasting sex and greater comfort. Greater comfort during sex and increased endurance has the possibility of better ability to achieve orgasms for women who have a problem achieving satisfying orgasms. Conditioning of the body and its muscle groups allow for greater flexibility, making the sexual activity more enjoyable as you are able to try new things that might not have been possible before. I'll let you use your imagination for this one.

Boosting your sex life with physical activity is boosting your overall general health and the healthier you are the better your sex life can be. The psychological benefits such as improved self esteem, good mood, and increased confidence along with stress reduction benefits are immediately noticeable. The more your health and physical abilities improve the better your sex life can be. Simple exercises like walking briskly at least two miles per day can reap wonderful benefits in the bedroom. So just imagine the benefits you could gain from an overall exercise regime. So, getting healthy and staying healthy only has more benefits than you might have originally though.

If you are really interested in getting fit, you should look into a membership at your local gym. You can use their cardio machines and weight machines to gain considerable stamina and muscle mass. You may even skip the gym membership, and go for a run every day. This will get you in great shape as well, it just depends on how much you want to get into the whole fitness thing. Being fit has hundreds of benefits, and better sex is just one of them. So as soon as you can, start doing more research related to how you can get fit, and how it will help you in life.

Have you got your lipid profile checked yet? If not, you need to do so as soon as possible. You may wonder why, and what this is all about. It is about lowering the cholesterol level in your blood so as to reduce the risk of getting a coronary heart disease, which may prove fatal, if left untreated.

In this context, it is essential for you to understand cholesterol and its role in keeping your heart healthy. Being a fatty lipid, steroid and an alcohol, cholesterol is one of the most important components found in your body tissues and blood plasma. Too much of it, however, can be extremely harmful, to the extent of gradually clogging your arteries and finally stopping your heart from functioning.

What is Cholesterol?
The main sources of cholesterol in your blood are your liver and food. Most of the cholesterol is produced in the liver. The rest of it gets into your blood through foods rich in animal fats, like meat, egg yolk, and dairy products made from whole milk. Cholesterol gets attached to protein complexes, called lipoproteins, which transport it. There are two main types of cholesterol: one good, the other bad, in relation to the health of your heart. High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol is the good one. It gets transported from the various organs and tissues to the liver, where it is broken down and from where it is sent for excretion. Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, the bad one, gets carried from the liver to the tissues and organs, including the heart. Low levels of HDL (good) cholesterol coupled with high levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol in the blood obviously result in increased quantities of fatty lipids getting deposited on the walls of the arteries, narrowing them (or even blocking them) and thus affecting the free flow of blood to the heart and from it. Finding out the levels of HDL and LDL cholesterol along with triglycerides, a type of fat, you can get your lipid profile. If the second is high and the first is low, you have a high cholesterol ratio unfavorable to your heart's health. If added to it you have high levels of triglycerides, your heart runs a very high risk of getting diseased.

Lowering your LDL Cholesterol
Lowering the levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while simultaneously raising the levels of HDL cholesterol thus becomes imperative for a healthy heart. This can be achieved through diet, exercise and drugs. Of these, the last one has been found to be most effective. Avoiding animal fats in your food and doing physical exercise regularly may be useful, no doubt. But a particular Vitamin B called niacin works very well in lowering the LDL cholesterol, raising the HDL cholesterol as well as reducing the triglycerides. Niacin is another name for nicotinic acid and nicotinamide. This wonder drug, first used more than forty years ago, has been found to retard the production of a protein that carries LDL cholesterol and triglycerides from the liver to the heart and other organs. The result is obvious: lower levels of bad cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Niacin has also been found to be the most effective drug for increasing the good cholesterol. In combination with some statins like lovastatin, niacin has been found to be much more useful in lowering the LDL cholesterol. Similarly, niacin and fibrates work better when used together. In particular, a type of niacin that slows or extends its own release into the blood stream, called the extended-release niacin, in combination with statins or fibrates, is very useful in controlling serum cholesterol. Dieting and exercise may work in some cases, but niacin works in all for cholesterol management.

There is just one thing to worry about in the use of niacin. It causes flushing or redness as well as a few other side effects such as increasing plasma glucose and uric acid levels in some patients. Niacin has therefore to be used only with the advice and under the supervision of a doctor, who will help in the management of these side effects.

Get your lipid profile and if you find it shows elevated levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in it, ask your doctor if niacin will help. You will be happily surprised when he concurs.

The best way to diagnose an iron deficiency is to see a doctor, however, there are lots of early signs and symptoms that you can be on the lookout for – just in case. An iron deficiency is more than just a lack of iron in your blood, it also decreases your red blood cell count, leaving you tired, pale, and unable to sleep.

At the risk of getting to technical, iron is a requirement red blood cells have to create hemoglobin. The hemoglobin is what carries oxygen around your body to your different body parts. It also is a requirement to make myoglobin, similar to hemoglobin except that it stores the oxygen in your muscles instead of transporting it. Without oxygen, your body doesn't have what it needs to operate. It's like holding your breath – you get tired and a little lightheaded because your body is not getting the oxygen it needs.

There are a number of reasons your body may become iron deficient, or anemic. You may simply not be getting enough iron, your body may not be absorbing it properly or you may have experienced a dramatic loss in blood. There are a few other possible causes such as alcoholism, overuse of aspirin or some other type of anti inflammatory drug as well as a variety of diseases that cause internal bleeding. However, if you suspect an iron deficiency and it's not due to internal bleeding or similar more serious illnesses, an iron deficiency can be relatively easy to reverse and cure.

Women, elderly and young children are at the greatest risk for being iron deficient. Women and teenagers are at a greater risk due to the blood loss caused by menstruation. Young children and babies can be at risk for a variety of reasons including improperly mixed formula or from drinking goat or cow's milk. Premature babies also have a high risk due to their typically rapid growth rate. However, even though certain groups of people are at a higher risk, everyone has a possibility of developing an iron deficiency.

Curing the deficiency
Taking iron supplements or simply increasing the amount of iron rich food may be a very easy way to cure an iron deficiency, however, a doctor should always be consulted to determine if it is actually an iron deficiency and not some other type of disease. A doctor can do a simple blood test that will let you know if you are deficient. Iron rich foods include: meat, beans, nuts, raisins, fish and fortified cereals. The iron contained in meat is much more readily absorbed than that in beans and vegetables, so if you are a vegetarian, you may need more than the typical person to assure adequate iron absorption.

Iron supplements
Iron supplements can be a powerful way to cure a deficiency anemia, however, too much iron can cause more harm than good. There is a disease called hemocromatosis that actually causes your body to absorb too much iron, making iron supplements a very dangerous product. Taking too much iron can also increase your risk of infections making it even more important to consult a doctor when considering taking an iron supplement. Some signs that you are getting more iron than your body can absorb include dark stools or constipation.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that can increase the risk of developing other problems with the health. However there are many ways you can help to keep your diabetes under control and lead a relatively normal life. Living a healthy lifestyle, attending check up appointments and managing your blood sugar levels successfully, go a long way to your success in dealing with this illness.

Monitoring blood sugars
In order to maintain your diabetes successfully it is essential that you are able to monitor your own blood sugar levels. There are a variety of home machines that you are able to buy to give you accurate indications of the level. Self monitoring has the advantages of letting you be aware when your level is too low, will allow you to monitor your level during times of sickness and gives you confidence in the ability to successful keep your diabetes under control.

The best way to get accurate readings is to monitor your levels at different times during the day or week. The small machines designed to be used in the home are very easy to use and include everything you need to stay on top of the disease and help you to control it.

Get a check-up
Attending regular check ups is also a necessity, check ups are usually made every 3-months, 6-months or yearly and help to prevent complications from diabetes and make sure you are controlling it successfully during the absence of check-ups. During a check-up you will have blood tests to monitor your glucose level, test your level of cholesterol, and have your blood pressure checked and your feet and nerves. You should also schedule an eye examination to check for any damage to the back of your eyes.

Other risks
You are more at risk of developing other illnesses along with your diabetes, such as heart disease and problems with your circulation so it is imperative that you look after your overall health. Maintaining a healthy diet can go a long way to helping you keep your condition under control; you should eat at regular intervals and include low in fat while being high in fiber content. It is very important that you watch the amount of sugar you eat in your diet and also restrict the amount of salt you use in cooking and on food.

Developing an exercise routine is also good for your condition, not only will it help to keep your blood sugar level stable, but will also help you to maintain a healthy weight.

If you have diabetes then you shouldn't smoke or drink alcohol, smoking increases the risk of developing many other illnesses. If you do drink then keep it to a minimum and never drink alcohol on an empty stomach as this could lead to hypoglycemia.

You should also buy home kits for testing your level of cholesterol and blood pressure, the ideal for blood pressure is around 130/80 and your cholesterol level should be below 4.0 if you suffer from diabetes.

Nothing is better than a home workout system. Exercise increases your longevity, your happiness, and your mental stability. You don't always need to go to the gym to get a good workout. There are plenty of home equipment solutions that you can get. If you buy wisely and look in the right places, you can get great deals on equipment that will improve your quality of life. So first decide what kind of equipment you want, then read on to find out some of the best places to buy that equipment. Get up, get moving, and get into a healthier lifestyle.

Before anything else, you should check craigslist.com and look for listings in your area. There are many people who have been stuck with workout equipment they don't want for years. If you are able to find these people, you will have the opportunity to do them a favor by taking it off their hands. Sometimes you will find stuff that is perfectly free as long as you are willing to come pick it up. As long as the equipment can still function safely, you can't go wrong with free stuff no matter how outdated it is. Craigslist is the perfect place to find these people who can help you out in this regard. This is a great place to find used treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, dumbbells, plates, and pretty much anything else you can imagine.

However, you don't always want to base your workout collection on what other people are giving away or selling. You can also track down your desired items directly from the retailers. For lighter items that can easily be shipped, definitely look online. You will find the cheapest items online, and you will be able to save on shipping. However, for items like treadmills you will want to buy offline. Even if you found it for cheaper online, the insane shipping charge would nullify the savings otherwise. For brick-and-mortar retailers that can sell you a treadmill, try Sears or similar stores.

Yard sales are another great place to look if you want to find used, cheap equipment. If you look in newspaper advertisements for local yard sales, you will almost always find extra notes for treadmills or other similar equipment. If you ask nicely, the seller might even be able to hook up an extension cord and give you a demo of the machine in action. Running for a few minutes will give you a great feel for the stability of the machine before you spend money on it. Weekends are great for going out and wandering around to different yard sales.

If you look in all of these outlets and still fail to find what you need, then it is very likely that the item simply doesn't exist. If you are sure of what you are looking for and you still can't find it, the best thing you can do is wait patiently while continuously checking the different places to see if they have had an update in stock (or a new user posting their item that they are trying to lay off on someone). Over a long enough timeline, you are almost sure to find exactly what you want, and usually you will find it for an excellent price.

Stress affects people in different ways, but it is usually only the severity of the symptoms that differs while the actual symptoms remain basically the same. Some people are much easier to stress than others while some lose their cool for the slightest reasons, others can seemingly take a lot before the give in to stress and begin to show the common signals related to stress.

Stress can also be divided into two categories, short-term stress and long-term stress. Stress is generally regarded as short term if a situation comes up that you aren't used to in everyday life such as an interview, an exam or going to the dentist. While the signals of short term stress and long term stress are the same, if you are only stressed in the short term these feelings are only with you on the day of the event or just before and quickly disappear once the event has passed. Once this has passed your body settles down and you think no more about the feelings of stress and anxiety and it passes with no trouble.

However, long term stress differs because it has the same signals as short term stress only they are with you almost everyday, constantly affecting your body and mind and developing into deep seated anxiety and panic attacks occasionally, if left to its own devices.

The common signals listed below could be warning signs that you are suffering from stress, either in the short term or long term and can vary from person to person in the severity

* The feelings of butterflies or knots in your stomach
* Feeling cold sweats and feeling very flushed or hot
* Your mouth feels as dry as a desert or that it is full of cotton wool
* Your heart seems to pound or beat much more quickly than it should
* Your hands may feel cold and they may tremble
* You lose the ability to concentrate and even think properly
* You feel a terrible feeling that you cant describe
* Your head feels as though a tight band of steel is encircling it and is pulling tighter and tighter
* Your skin feels itchy or as some people put it as though something is crawling beneath your skin
* You find it hard to settle down and often your sleeping patterns change with you laying awake for hours while feeling exhausted
* You sleep but wake up feeling more tired than when you went to bed
* Your energy levels drop and you begin to feel lethargic and have no interest in the things you once did

All the above are the most common signals that you are stressed and that you should take steps towards eliminating some of the stress from your life or finding adequate ways to be able to release the stress from your body and mind. If your level of stress is particularly high or if you have long-term stress then you should take advice from your doctor as you may need medication to get you back on track while you develop ways to beat stress.

Chinese medicine is a whole holistic system that can lead to a healthier, happier and more stress free way of living. It is a system that people have benefited from for over twenty-three centuries and is used to diagnose, treat and prevent a wide variety or illnesses and problems.

The different aspects that make up Chinese medicine all basically rely on the same principle, Yin and Yang. This is basically opposites attract, such as night and day, cold and warm, inner and outer. The basis behind it is to restore harmony and peace to the mind and body; the Chinese believe that by doing so we can eliminate many diseases and illnesses.

Qi is the life force that flows uninterrupted throughout the body, similar to blood throwing throughout the veins. It is when there is a disruption in this Qi that problems and illness occurs; restoring the flow of the Qi restores harmony and dissolves the symptoms of illness.

The two main components of Chinese medicine are acupuncture and herbal remedies.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture focuses on the Qi that flows throughout the body; it flows through points known as meridian points. While it is flowing freely we are healthy and happy, but if the channels should become blocked then the Qi stagnates and this leads to symptoms of various illnesses depending on where the Qi is blocked. It works by the acupuncturist restoring the normal flow of the Qi by stimulating certain points on the body.

Herbal medicine
Chinese herbal medicine is usually dispensed after acupuncture treatment although it can be used as a standalone. There are over a thousand common herbs that are used in combinations for various problems and illnesses. There are two main types of herbal remedies that are commonly used, these are "food herbs" and are generally eaten as part of the diet and are mainly used for prevention of disease and illness and maintenance. "Medicinal herbs" are usually prescribed by a Doctor of Chinese medicine and are specially prepared for the patient based on the individuals needs. The formula is made up from the patient's medical condition, the environment and the constitution of the person. Medicinal herbs are usually given alongside acupuncture treatment and used in conjunction with the "re-balancing" effects of acupuncture treatment.

The benefits of Chinese medicine are numerous and is has been thought to have helped many physical conditions along with affective disorders and increases mental clarity, here are just a few of the conditions it has been known to successfully treat.

* Sinusitis, bronchitis and asthma
* Conjunctivitis and cataracts
* Stroke, sciatica and osteoarthritis
* Faster recovery from injury
* Improved circulation
* Relief from stress and anxiety
* Relief from pain
* Strengthening of the immune system
* Addictions, phobias and eating disorders

There are many thoughts and feelings associated with a traumatic experience, trauma occurs when we are faced with any terrible situation, such as a car accident, fire, witness to an accident, natural disaster, an attack on your person, war, e.t.c. Many people who are recovering from a traumatic experience mentally block out the experience that caused distress while others will relive it time and time again. Trauma can bring many feelings such as

* Shock – shock is a normal reaction to any traumatic experience and the closer you were to the experience the more shock sets in. Your brain has to process the terrible images you have seen and this is when the feelings of shock set in and will take time to digest.
* Disbelief – many people experiencing a shocking situation have strong belief that what they have witnessed cannot possibly have happened.
* Denial – many people deny that the event happened; they try to force it out of their mind.
* Emotional pain – even if you haven't been hurt in the incident you will feel the pain of those around you who did.
* Anger – after shock, anger will set in, you will ask yourself "why has this happened to you" and you can feel anger towards anyone and everyone.
* Blame – we very often blame ourselves or others for what has happened, we may even blame God for letting this happen.
* Sadness – when overcoming a particular traumatic experience you will feel waves of sadness suddenly overwhelming you.
* Depression – for some time after the experience you may suddenly lapse into depression from time to time.
* Anxiety – anxiety often develops from fear and can continue for some time after the experience.

All of the above are the most common feelings and thoughts associated with having gone through trauma; these feelings can come in no particular order and at any time. What you should realize is that these feelings are only natural and are your body and minds way of coping with what happened, the feelings and thoughts will eventually dissipate with time. There are many ways you can cope with them and help yourself to overcome them, the best way for you of course will depend on the severity of the trauma you were exposed to. There are however a number of coping skills which can be learnt in order to help you overcome trauma.

* Taking about what happened and letting it all out
* Listening to and accepting advice from family, friends or counselor
* Accepting what happened and continuing on with life
* Changing your environment
* Taking part in recreational activities
* Picking up your old daily routine
* Taking part in seminars

1) If you are bored with your exercise plans or workout program, instead of quitting altogether, try cutting back or just doing something you enjoy instead, so you don't stop everything. For example, if you dislike weightlifting activities, head to the stationary bikes or treadmills. Some treadmills have settings like the Alpine Slopes where you go for uphill excursion adventures that test your strength and endurance. Give those a try and reach that mountain top!

2) Hire a personal trainer for a couple of workouts to see how you're doing and find areas of improvement, new routines to try. You can often find affordable rates at the local YMCA.

3) Set more realistic fitness goals by researching what they should be with your doctor. Losing more then 2 lbs per week, for instance, is taking too much weight off too soon, setting yourself up for failure and a return of the pounds you shed.

4) Get a work out buddy by networking at your local gym and signing up for one at the front desk. If there's a bulletin board there, place a note with your phone number on pull tabs on the bottom, telling fellow members to call if interested in working out together. List your available workout times for handy reference, too, and the best times to call you.

5) Repeat number 4 above with healthy diet planning. Seek friends to get together for a weekly or monthly diet planning and fun cooking session at your home, alternating with homes of other participants, if they like. Tell everyone to bring a favorite dish and healthy treat, favorite recipes copied x-number of times to share with others and a joke or fun baby-shower type game or activity. Look for some yourself on the Internet or pick up a book on party planning.

6) Be safe with your fitness plans. When you seek fitness activities, make sure there is plenty of parking in well lit, safe areas. Leave your plans with someone; for example if you go on a long hike, in case you run into trouble so that others know to watch for your return. Also pack and dress accordingly. Even if it's a quick hike in the woods, you can get lost or hurt. So carry along a first aid kit, filled water bottle, healthy foodstuffs and light blanket at least.

ADHD is an illness that starts in childhood. A child with ADHD has trouble sitting still, doesn't finish things that they begin and usually acts without first thinking things through. This is a real illness that can change the way your child acts, feels, or thinks at times. There are many different treatments for ADHD, drugs being just one of them. In fact, drugs should always be a last resort that is almost never used (when in fact quite the opposite is true today).

You will notice that a child with ADHD may fidget, or wiggle a lot more than usual when asked to sit still or even without thinking. Some seem to be daydreaming, all of which are signs that the child may be ADHD. When these behaviors interfere with the child's ability to concentrate in school or make public outings dangerous for the child or make making friends difficult then there is cause for alarm and the child should be tested for ADHD. Parents may have a difficult time figuring out what to do with the child or may not even have the slightest idea of what to do.

Parents may think that some of these behaviors are normal for any child and may be in denial about their child's condition. The good news is that it is an illness that can be treated effectively and can make the child feel much better about them. How the child feels about themselves is very important because increasing the child's self esteem will essential to treatment. The child may feel like a failure, when they definitely are not. A common childhood illness, ADHD can be controlled and the child may even grow out of it eventually, as he or she begins to mentally mature and the symptoms simply disappear.

The causes of the illness are not yet definitely known but it is known that it usually runs in families. Some doctors believe that there is not one single factor but combinations of factors that may contribute to the illness. So, if you are worried about your child's behavior, you should take your child for a simple evaluation. Your child will not be immediately diagnosed with ADHD but will be checked for all possible answers to the problem. The possibility does exist that the child may have other problems that cause them to behave the way that they have. Other conditions can be mistaken for ADHD easily. It may even just be a bad diet or a lack of sleep that is causing poor brain functioning.

If it is found that the child does not have any other problems then it may be diagnosed that the child does in fact have an attention deficit disorder that needs treatment. Behavior therapy may be recommended. This involves meeting with doctors to work with your child on skills to help improve the problem. Working on building relationships, rules, limits, land choices. Medication may be prescribed as an accompanying aid to behavior treatments. The very best results are possible when these things are worked on together. So, it is extremely important that you take action, not be in denial, and to realize that it is not your fault that your child has this problem. Treatments are necessary and help from a qualified physician should be sought as soon as possible.

Just because you are a busy person with lots to do everyday, it doesn't mean that you don't have time to stay fit and keep in shape while traveling. Excuses do not keep you fit and in shape and able to keep up with the demands of your busy life. If you are a member of a health club it would benefit you greatly if you ask the club if it participates in any programs that offer privileges at other facilities. Guest passes to certain spa and athletic clubs are sometimes free for one day. If your hotel does not have arrangements with a club near your hotel, the hotel that you are staying at just might. Asking at the front desk may open your eyes to many possibilities for a workout away from home and you will find out exactly what your options really are. Lots of hotels at least have treadmills or similar machines, which are much better than simply laying in bed and watching TV during your stay. When traveling just remember that almost every town has a YMCA or YWCA. Locate the yellow pages in your hotel room and give them a call. Again, there is now no excuse to become a traveling couch potato. Opportunities for you to take care of your fitness needs abound in all of your business and personal travels.

If necessary you may need to get a little creative, by using your hotel room as the gym of the day. Exercising in your hotel room is an easily and very convenient way to make certain that you get in your work out without missing a beat. Before you leave for your trip pack some collapsible hand weights or elastic exercise bands or other equipment that is made for travel, and turn your hotel room into the indoor gym that it has the potential to be. Elastic bands are great for getting resistance without lugging around big old dumbbells everywhere you go. Use the chairs and other pieces of furniture to your advantage to satisfy all of your fitness needs. Body weight exercises are enough for a great workout. Combine crunches, pushups, and legups. You won't exercise a large variety of muscles using only body weight, but you will at least be able to work on your heart and your endurance.

We understand that working out is not as easily done when you are in route to your next destination, so if your time is extremely tight and you don't have time for a complete work out. There are other alternatives to not working out at all. Stretch in your room, take a long walk. I bet the hotel is just as nice on the other side of the pool. Speaking of pool, you could always take a swim. Swimming is definitely a workout that will work every muscle in your body. With all of these ideas for a good work out, if not the best work out that you've ever had, you should no longer have any excuse for not continuing your fitness routine while traveling. Just remember that it doesn't really matter where you are when you do your work out but that you do your work out where you are. And if you can't do the exact routine that you are useful, just take solace in the fact that you are getting a workout.

Diet plans seem to be everywhere. And it isn't always easy to figure out which one to try. So here are some quick diet tips to mix in with your plans any time.

* Regardless of your dietary plans, add some more fitness into the mix. Park farther away at the grocery store. Stop using a remote for televisions, videos, DVDs and gaming equipment. Take stair instead of elevators and escalators. Walk and bike instead of drive. Add in an exercise class into your evening or weekend and cancel out an hour of television at the time. Invite a friend, relative, neighbor, your child or your mate to go with you.

* Learn more about food, dietary issues and cooking and meal planning and preparation. You need to eat every day, so learn more about it. Take cooking classes at a local establishment. Search online for neat recipes with colored photos. Make your learning experience fun and enjoyable, not a core and something you have to do that's boring. Sample newer foods form the International section of your grocer.

* Get rid of the couch in front of your television (or within viewing range). This will make you have to either stand or sit to watch the screen and not be a couch potato.

* Grab a cell phone for long talks and walk while you talk – outside is even better for fresh air.

* Keep plenty of healthy snacks on hand and start by learning how to make them and shop for them. You can make your own healthy snack bars, for example, using protein powder sold in the diet section of your grocery store. Check online for recipes at fitness forums and with the manufacturer of the protein powder you purchase.

* Don't head for food when you're emotional. Talk a walk or punch a pillow first, to release pent up anger, frustration or other severe feelings you are going through. Then relax and later….eat right.

* Learn to enjoy sports more and other fun physical activities. Read about them, learn how they're played, read up on the pros in the industry for tips and self-help and motivational information.

* Give back by sharing what you learn that works and doesn't work with a healthy diet. Help others trying to find a good diet plan or which extra fitness activities to add into their family plans.

The bones and other tissues in your wrist help to protect your median nerve; together they form a narrow tunnel that is known as the carpel tunnel. Your median nerve is what gives you feeling in your fingers but occasionally ligaments and tendons get swollen and become painful as they press against the median nerve. When this happens your hand hurts or even becomes numb and you develop an extremely painful condition know as carpel tunnel syndrome.

Carpel tunnel syndrome most commonly affects people who do the same movements with their hands continually. Those who more at risk include typists, carpenters, grocery packers and assembly line workers, people with hobbies such as gardening, needlework, golfing and canoeing are also more at risk of developing the syndrome. It has also been linked with illnesses such as diabetes, arthritis and thyroid disease and women in the last few months of pregnancy can develop it.

The first signs that indicate you might be suffering from carpel tunnel syndrome include

* Tingling or numbness felt in your hands and fingers, especially around the index, middle fingers and thumb.
* Pain in the palm of your hand, forearm or wrist
* The pain or numbness is worse at night than it is during the day
* The pain gets worse the more you use your hands
* You have trouble gripping things and drop them more often
* Your thumb feels particularly weak

Your doctor will perform an examination of your hand, fingers and wrist to help determine whether you have carpal tunnel syndrome and may include a nerve conduction test to help the diagnosis. If carpal tunnel syndrome is diagnosed, treatment will usually consist of you having to wear a splint, and give your wrist a rest and change the way you use your wrist. The splint can help to alleviate the pain felt, particularly at night. Massaging the area of pain and putting ice onto the area can all help, as can performing stretching exercises. With treatment it is a condition that will improve, but there are some things you can do to help prevent the onset of carpel tunnel syndrome.

* Increasing your awareness of how you use your hands and equipment throughout the day can make a change
* Centering your work directly in front of you, your forearms should be parallel to the floor or slightly lowered
* If you stand up to work then have your work bench at waist height
* Make sure your hands and wrists are in line with your forearms
* If you work long hours at a keyboard then titling it can help
* Use proper hand and wrist movements when using a mouse and trackball
* Make sure you hold your elbows in close to your sides
* Never rest of the heel of your hand or wrist especially if you have them bent at an angle
* Make sure that you take a slight break every 20 minutes
* Do some stretching or flexing exercises every 20 minutes

It is possible to develop an allergy to almost anything; this could be a smell, food, medication or reactions to dander found on animals. An allergy can range from nothing more than an annoying itch to the more serious of going into shock after developing a severe reaction. Allergies are usually divided into different categories that include:

* Eczema and urticaria – these are allergies which affect the skin; they include allergic skin rashes such as nettle rash and hives.
* Hay fever – this condition causes reactions such as runny nose, sneezing, coughing and sore eyes during the summer months.
* Venom allergies – these are reactions to stinging insects and snakes.
* Adverse food reactions – people can be allergic to many different types of food.
* Allergy to drugs – certain medications can cause a reaction in people; the usual reactions to drugs include a rash, sickness and stomach problems.
* Anaphylaxis – a severe and sudden intense allergic reaction that affects the whole body.
* Asthma – an allergic reaction that commonly affects the breathing.
* Eye allergies – this can vary from very mild irritation to severe conjunctivitis.

Diagnosing allergies
If your doctor believes that you may have an allergy then steps will need to be taken to identify what is causing it, the allergen. The most common way of finding the allergen is to perform a skin prick test. The skin prick test is quick and relatively painless and the results are known immediately.

A small needle is used to gently prick your skin with the allergen; the test will usually be conducted on your forearm. You are determined to be allergic to the allergen if your skin becomes red, sore and itchy around the area the needle was inserted. It is also usual for the area to come up in a welt. If you have had no reaction to the allergen after a period of roughly 20 minutes then you aren't allergic to that allergen.

If it is suspected that you have dermatitis – a form of eczema then you will normally be given a skin patch test, this test relies on taping patches with various allergens underneath aluminum discs. The discs are usually kept in place for a period of 48 hours and then assessed by a dermatologist for allergic changes.

Severe cases
In severe cases of allergy you might be required to have a challenge test to be performed in hospital. The suspected allergens are then introduced directly into the lungs or nose and the allergic reaction is then measured. If it is suspected that you might be allergic to food or foods then a double blind placebo test may be used. The food or foods that are thought to cause a reaction are given in a capsule under supervision, and then you wait to see if you develop a reaction to it. This type of test however is only done in extreme circumstances because despite it being the most reliable way it is also the most time consuming.

Most of us don't realize the true value that sleep can have on our bodies and minds and the majority of us don't get enough of it. While for some of us this is due to suffering from a sleep disorder such as insomnia, others just stay up too late and have commitments which require us to get up early. Getting enough quality sleep is essential to getting us through our day but also for our overall health.

One of the biggest things that lack of sleep has on our bodies is our hormones; various hormones in our body work together and have an effect on our health. When we suffer from lack of sleep we begin to crave more carbohydrates and sugar, our blood sugar levels will also fluctuate. If we don't get enough sleep it can cause problems with out adrenal glands, the adrenal glands regulate your body's health, when our adrenal glands start suffering, and we start to suffer.

One of the main problems being an increase in hormone cortisol, cortisol helps us to resist stress, maintain our blood pressure and our moods are dependant on it. However if there is an increase in cortisol then it can cause adverse reactions within our body and is not good for us.

So what can we do to ensure that we get enough sleep? Here are some tips to help

* Avoid eating before going to bed – if possible do not eat after 7pm, the later you eat the less time your body has to digest food before you go to bed. Instead of resting your body will spend all night digesting the food you ate. Also going to bed on a full stomach will lead to you feeling uncomfortable and tossing and turning all night long.

* Get enough exercise throughout the day – if you aren't getting enough exercise throughout the day then you aren't going to be tired. Getting regular exercise not only gets you fitter but also helps you to get a good nights rest.

* Dim your lights – just as the sun streaming through your window first thing in the morning starts your day off by energizing you, dimming your lights at night can encourage your body to slow down and unwind.

* Buy a suitable mattress – if you are having trouble getting comfortable at night in bed then consider buying a new mattress, if your mattress is old and worn this could be the reason you are tossing and turning all night.

* Have a schedule and keep to it – develop a healthy internal clock by getting yourself into a routine. Get up at the same time every morning and go to bed at the same time.

* Avoid taking naps – where possible stay awake and don't take a nap during the day, taking a nap during the day confuses your internal clock and you are not as tired when it comes to going to bed.

* Keep your bedroom relaxed – avoid turning your bedroom into an office, don't put a desk or computer in there and be tempted to work. If you have work in there you are more than likely going to thinking of the things you have done or should have done and this can keep you awake.

* A hot drink – try winding down with a hot drink before going to bed, of course give this time to go through your body before lying down for the night, otherwise you will awaken with the need to go to the bathroom. Preferably make cocoa with hot milk but avoid coffee and tea.

Burnout is a term that is closely related to stress. Burnout occurs when your body and mind are continually stressed to the point when you begin to develop emotional and physical fatigue.
While burnout is related to severe stress, it is different from just being excessively stressed. Many people live for years with long-term stress without "burning out".
The signs that you may be heading for "burnout" include the following symptoms, lower down the scale indicates symptoms you may feel the closer to "burnout" you become.

* Feelings of deep resentment build up

The end result of these symptoms show one as suffering from "burnout" due to continual and unrelenting long periods of stress, they are nothing more than the result of an extremely tired body and mind. At the time of actual "burnout" you will be experiencing problems not only at work but also with relationships and almost every aspect of what you used to know as "normal" life.

In order to prevent burnout it is important that you recognize the symptoms and try to eliminate as much stress as possible from your life. Stress management is essential to prevent burnout and using stress management techniques can prevent many of the symptoms.

Our body needs calcium, there's no denying it. But do you know what you need it for? This is the question that needs to be answered. The body requires the regular intake of calcium to keep the bones and the teeth healthy. The bones require calcium to remain strong, support the body structure and to protect the organs of the body. In case of deficiency in calcium, osteoporosis sets in. Simply put, osteoporosis is a gradual degradation of the bones for want of calcium.

Sources of calcium
Calcium is very essential in maintaining the health of the bone and teeth and there are quite a few foods that are rich in calcium. These foods must be consumed on daily basis to get the required quantity of calcium. Calcium rich foods include: milk, milk products such as cheese, butter, and few vegetables. Tofu, wheat bread, apricot, rye bread, broccoli and cottage cheese do contain good quantity of calcium. Most nuts and cereals also contain calcium in sufficient quantity.

One important factor regarding calcium absorption is the requirement of vitamin D. If you are not getting enough vitamin D from your diet or from the sunlight, you will not properly absorb and use the calcium you get, even if you get an abundant amount of calcium.

Calcium may also be consumed in the form of calcium supplements. Daily consumption of a simple antacid fortified with calcium can help keep the teeth and bone strong and healthy. However, before turning to supplements, every attempt made to consume required quantity of calcium through diet is worth the effort. The important thing to note here is that your required amount of calcium should not be received from supplements alone. Healthy foods rich in calcium, if not providing enough, can be taken with calcium supplements to fulfill the body's daily calcium requirement.

Need for calcium
Growing children require more calcium than the average adult. How can the children grow taller without proper bone growth? How can the bones grow without the help of the calcium and vitamin D? Bone is a mixture of calcium, phosphorous, magnesium and other minerals. Deficiency of calcium or vitamin D will result in diseases like rickets and children affected by this disease may be prone to many other health hazards as well.

The calcium requirement differs at different stages of the life. At some stages the requirement of calcium is more. For example a pregnant women requires more calcium. This is for the development of bone of the baby in the womb. Likewise the lactating mother too requires more calcium than the ordinary women because calcium will be utilized for the milk production. As mentioned earlier the growing children will also need more calcium than the adult man as the bone mass will keep on growing.

Calcium Source for those who have milk intolerance
There are few people who cannot digest milk due to a lack of enzymes that help aid the digestion of milk. As a result, these lactose intolerant people feel sick soon after drinking milk or dairy products. Lactose intolerant people should consider taking calcium lactate supplements to get the calcium they need.
