			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>No matter where one may take a look, either throughout the internet, or a health magazine, either in a doctor&#039;s office or at the TV, there&#039;s an enormous debate on vitamins versus food. Is food enough for a healthy life or is vitamin supplements needed in the diet. Why should I take vitamins if I&#039;m on a diet, vitamins help increase weight don&#039;t they? </p>
<p>It seems that food and vitamins have become a real industry and more and more people in the business of selling vitamins and supplements build up their companies on the thoughts and worries of the general public.</p>
<p>Now, let&#039;s take each at a time and confront these myths with clear reality. The first thing to say is that plenty of food doesn&#039;t always mean healthy nutrition. </p>
<p>Much of the fruits and vegetables grown nowadays are forced to grow bigger and quicker with the help of pesticides, therefore the main nutritive factors are irremediably lost. Eating this foodstuff does not necessarily give us the nutrition we need within our diet. </p>
<p>Unfortunately food that is good for us is usually grown organically and tends to be very expensive and outside the reach of those people who live on limited incomes.</p>
<p>Also the animals which end up on our tables are also usually artificially fed. Meat and fish are no longer what they were even a few years ago due to the way they are farmed. Much of our food contains coloring and antibiotics which often plays havoc with our bodily systems.</p>
<p>Taking into consideration all these causes, the single and most comfortable solution seem to be taking vitamin supplements. </p>
<p>Think of your body as of a house. A lack of vitamins and minerals in the body is like a house without windows, doors or roof. The action of cold and hot weather, of winds and rain would have a similar action on this house as life has on our bodies when deprived of the nutrients and minerals we need.</p>
<p>Now we&#039;ve shown that there&#039;s a point in taking vitamin supplements, we should understand also their effects. How about developing a strong bone system and a protected heart and normal blood pressure. </p>

It&#039;s true that your appetite may rise with the help of vitamins, but the cause of obesity and weight problems is too much food or a disease, not a daily multivitamin.</p>
<p>Try to be moderate and accept the needs of your body; give it the meals and supplements it requires. Try to do physical exercise, too. The result will be seen in no time, a healthy mind in a healthy body.</p>

On the other hand, if you do not enjoy eating foods that are rich in niacin and/or suffer from allergic reactions to these foods, then taking the extra supplements will be beneficial.</p>
<p><b>Where can you find niacin supplements and how should they be taken?</b></p>
<p>Be sure to consult with your doctor before beginning any supplementation program or nutritional dietary change. Once you have, finding niacin (B3), is the easy part because you can find this supplement in most health food stores, as well as the vitamin section in standard grocery stores. However, if you are in need of very high doses then a prescription will be needed from your doctor.</p>

<p>National Cancer Institute researchers established that people who took vitamin E for at least a six months trial were only half as probable to develop oral cancer. Another big Finnish study explained and showed that individuals with the lowest levels of E in their body had a 50% higer risk of developing any type of cancer.</p>

Whilst carrying out its job it also destroys bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses that may cause us harm, On the other hand, if care is not taken to ensure the immune system remains healthy, it may break down, causing us to become defenseless against a violent flood of bad health which can range from small problems to life threatening illnesses.</p>
<p>The immune system, more than any other system in our body, relies upon excellent care and most of all upon nourishment. It is the main stay of our good health and if too much physical and moral stress is put upon it without being revived through good nourishment etc it can fail to give us the protection we need to continue in good health. We then become prone to many diseases which range from small and annoying to very serious.</p>
<p>The vital ingredients to keep the immune system working at an optimum level are vitamin C, beta carotene, folic acid, among with the following minerals: manganese, zinc and selenium. If taken in sufficient quantities, these ingredients help us to fight off disease and infection.</p>
<p>Reliable quantities are needed of all these components to ensure the immune system is working at its best. In addition the immune system needs high-quality protein ingestion because the antibodies that protect us against microbes are proteins. Unfortunately there are no specific pills that really strengthen the action of the immune system; it has to be done by the ingestion of good nourishment and vitamins.</p>
<p>Factors which disturb the balance of the immune system can be numerous and include<br />
* Undernourishment (poor diet / reduced eating behavior that implies a deficiency in the quantity of needed minerals, vitamins and antioxidants)<br />
* Alcohol misuse (which is one of the easiest ways to destroy the immune system)<br />
* Drug use both intravenous and any other type. (this is also related to associated factors such as reduced diet, use of tainted/dirty needles, lack of physical exercise, fretfulness/anxiety)<br />
* Prescript antibiotics (mainly anti-cancer drugs, corticosteroids, and similar medication);<br />
* Emission of radiations, this can be from natural sources as well as man made.<br />
* Contact with specific ecological contaminants, i.e. toxic waste. (This can also include cigarette smoke).<br />
* Pressure/Anxiety (emotional worry can seriously boost your vulnerability to colds and other viral illnesses, specifically if you are taking corticosteroid medication).<br />
* Age, because the ability of the immune system to respond is diminished as people get older. (Children also have a lower immune system).<br />
* Insufficient sleep, we should take at least 4-5 hours of Delta sleep per night. A lack of sleep is one of the main reasons why the immune system is compromised in many people.<br />
* Lack of physical exercise, exercise helps to increase the health of our immune system.<br />

<p>E vitamin is also vital in protecting the cell membranes from the harmful free radicals that are present in the body. Without e vitamin, amongst others, the cell membranes would be damaged and this could lead to serious health problems, including cancer. The reason that the e vitamin is so effective against free radicals is that it is fat soluble so it can be absorbed into the cell membranes. The e vitamin is therefore essential for the immune system.</p>
<p>The recommended daily amount of the e vitamin that a person requires depends on their body weight. This is connected to the fact that the more fat a diet contains then the more of the e vitamin that is needed. However, the only foods that really contain any reasonable amount of the e vitamin are vegetable oils, seeds, wheat germ, and nuts. It is for this reason that most people should take some form of e vitamin supplement.</p>
<p>A deficiency of the e vitamin does not affect a person immediately. In fact, it can take months for the effects of insufficient e vitamin to be detected. After years of e vitamin deficiency there may e some detectable damage to the nerves of the spinal cord or retina of the eye but this is very rare. Most people obtain enough e vitamin from a normal diet but it is essential that the food that a person eats contains a little fat to help with the absorption of the e vitamin.</p>
<p>There are a few medical conditions that may lead to a deficiency of the e vitamin and may require the person to take e vitamin supplements. Cystic fibrosis causes a person to be unable to digest fats well which leads to less of the e vitamin being absorbed. Crohn&#039;s disease causes to lower absorption rates of the e vitamin and a supplement may be necessary. Some forms of liver disease can also lead to problems absorbing the e vitamin, especially through the intestine. Of course, as fat is required to help absorb sufficient amounts of the e vitamin, anyone on an extremely low-fat diet will need to discuss their options for increasing the amount of e vitamin that their body needs.</p>

Many people think of them as just plants to be added into our food while cooking to give it extra flavor, this is true up to a point, but herbs have a much more far reaching effect than that.</p>
<p>Herbs are plants, but hey are usually developed for gastronomic, therapeutic, or in some countries and traditions even divine worth. The green, verdant piece of the herb is usually the part of the plant which is used. </p>
<p>What&#039;s important about herbs is that broad-spectrum usage varies among gastronomic herbs and therapeutic herbs. A therapeutic herb is usually a hedge plant or other wooded one, whilst a gastronomic herb is a softener, flourishing plant. In distinction, spices are represented by the fruits, root, seeds, or extra elements of the plant, usually the leaves in particular. </p>
<p>Basically depending on the purpose you want to use it for, any part of an herb can be used for therapeutic reasons. Gastronomic herbs are distinguished from vegetables as they are used in modest quantities and supply savor more than material to cooking. </p>
<p>Alternative medicine suggests the consumption of herbs for treatments of different organic systems within the body. It is thought by many alternative practitioners that herbal treatments can be much more effective than antibiotics, vitamins or minerals, because herbs are known to be rich in substances which act as vitamins, but are more natural and efficient than anything else. </p>

The Chinese therapist mixes the medication after examining their patient and deciding what will be the correct herbs to treat them with. The herbalist then fine-tunes the recipe to enhance the patient&#039;s yin/yang state of being. This is thought to ensure the patient recovers much more quickly.</p>
<p>Components need to be added to the mixture to ensure toxicity or side-effects are kept to a minimum. The herbalist needs to have a vast knowledge of herbs as if mixed in the wrong quantity etc they can be lethal and have dire consequences on the health of the person who is taking them. Many people have died or been very ill as a consequence of taking herbs which have been prepared by an inadequately trained herbalist.</p>

Beta carotene that the body can convert into vitamin A is found in many fruits and vegetables, especially the red, orange and green coloured ones. The most important point to remember that consuming too much pure vitamin A can be toxic. It is essential not to exceed the recommended daily allowance for vitamin A. The actual recommended allowance of vitamin A varies depending on a person&#039;s age, sex and other factors. While the actual amount of vitamin A consumed may be toxic if the recommended daily allowance is exceeded, there is a far higher limit to how much beta carotene can be consumed. Therefore it is advisable to concentrate on obtaining the greatest amount of beta carotene which the body can then convert to vitamin A, rather than consuming vast quantities of pure vitamin A rich foods.</p>
<p>Many people will remember being told that eating lots of carrots helps you to see in the dark and that is down to the vitamin A that is produced from the high levels of beta carotene that are found in the vegetables. Other foods which have high levels of beta carotene that can be converted to vitamin A include tomatoes and dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach. Beta carotene is not only used to form vitamin A, but it is also a powerful antioxidant in itself. None of the beta carotene that is absorbed is wasted as any excess after conversion to vitamin A has taken place is used to fight the harmful free radicals within the body. Vitamin A also helps fight infections and illnesses by helping tissues that line various parts of the body, including the eyes, mouth, nose, throat and lungs, to grow and also to repair them if they are damaged to prevent infection. Children also need plenty of vitamin A to help their bones and teeth to develop properly.</p>

The body cannot store water soluble vitamins and this means that a person needs to replenish their water soluble vitamin intake on a daily basis. The eight B vitamins and vitamin C are water soluble vitamins and the body cannot store vitamin content that is either of these.</p>
<p>It is not simply that the body cannot store vitamins that are water soluble but also the water soluble vitamins are easily destroyed by improper storage, handling, or cooking of foods that contain these vitamins. In particular, it is important not to overcook vegetables by boiling as the water soluble vitamins are in effect washed out of them but this lack of being able to store vitamins that are water soluble can be overcome by light cooking or steaming and by using the water that vegetable have been cooked in to form sauces and gravies. As the body cannot store vitamin C or the other water soluble vitamins it is essential to eat a balanced diet with at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables to ensure that enough vitamins are available for the body to use when necessary and a person does not suffer from a vitamin deficiency due to the body&#039;s inability to store vitamin content.</p>
<p>On the other hand, the body can store vitamin content that is fat soluble. The body will store vitamin content in the fat cells so that it can be used when required and a person does not need to consume as many of these fat soluble vitamins on as frequent a basis as they do with water soluble vitamins. The fat cells store vitamin A, D, E, and K as these are all fat soluble vitamins.</p>
<p>It is also important to store vitamin supplements correctly to ensure that the beneficial qualities of these are not diminished. The best way to store vitamin supplements is in a container with a screw top lid and to keep the container in a dry place. When you store vitamin supplements it is also essential to check that they have not been kept longer than the expiration date. The vitamin content of supplements cannot be guaranteed if you store vitamin tablets past their use by date.</p>

One of the most important processes that the b12 is essential for is to create healthy red blood cells. The prevention of heart disease relies on the production of healthy blood cells and therefore the b12 vitamin is vital. The b12 vitamin is also vital for keeping the immune system functioning at its maximum efficiency. Not only this, but the b12 vitamin also works to form the protective covering of all the nerve cells in the body.</p>
<p>The production of red blood cells is not the only type of cells that the b12 vitamin is essential for. In fact, all of the cells in the body require the b12 vitamin, including white blood cells and nerve cells. The white blood cells are an important part of the immune system and without the b2 vitamin the effectiveness of the immunity of the body to germs and viruses is heavily reduced. The nerve cells need the b12 vitamin to create the fatty layer that will protect them from damage. The brain cells are particularly open to disease and damage if there is not enough b12 vitamin present to form this protective layer.</p>
<p>Even though the b12 vitamin is involved in so many essential processes the actual recommended daily amount that a body needs is quite small. The fact is that the majority of people consume much more of the b12 vitamin than  their body actually requires. The only issue is that the body cannot absorb the b12 vitamin very easily and has to create its own aid to the process. The intrinsic factor that the body produces helps the body to absorb the b12 vitamin that it needs from food but this still amounts to only half of the total b12 vitamin available. A deficiency in the b12 is extremely rare in most people and is made even less likely because the body can recycle the b12 vitamin that it already has absorbed.</p>
<p>A few groups of people may develop anaemia due to a lack of b12 vitamin in their diet. Young children often have a problem getting enough of the b12 vitamin because they may be extremely fussy eaters and it is important to encourage them to eat as wide a variety of foods as possible. This is not only the case with the b12 vitamin but is true for all essential vitamins and minerals.</p>

This is because there are some vitamins that can be toxic if too much is consumed and a vitamin supplement may not be appropriate if there is enough of the vitamin already in the food a person eats.</p>

It is also worth being aware of the developments in the mineral vitamin supplement industry as there are constantly new and better combinations being developed.</p>

This form of mineral vitamins are known as &#039;food state&#039; and are up to four times easier for the body to absorb the required nutrients as the yeast is completely digested.</p>

Otherwise known as Cobalamin, the 12b vitamin is needed for the processes to convert the carbohydrates, fats and proteins from food into energy. 12 b also, more importantly, helps keep the red blood cells healthy and therefore prevent heart disease as well as keeping the immune system functioning at its maximum level. In addition, 12 b is used to create the protective covering of all nerve cells in the body.</p>
<p>The most important function of 12 b is to form healthy red blood cells. However, all cells need 12 b to keep them healthy. It is the white blood cells, amongst others, that need 12 b to help ensure that the immune system functioning properly. All of the nerve cells in the body also need 12 b to form their protective fatty layer. This is essential for all of the nerves but is especially so for those in the brain. If there is not sufficient 12 b to create this protective layer then the brain will not be functioning properly.</p>
<p>Interestingly, the amount of 12 b that the body needs is relatively small but is needed on a regular basis. However, 12 b on its own is not enough as the body cannot absorb it easily. To help the body absorb 12 b the stomach produces intrinsic factor which enables more of the 12 b to be absorbed. 12 b is only found in animal foods such as liver, eggs, fish and meat but most people consume far more than their recommended daily amount of 12 b. This is not a problem as the body can only absorb about half of the 12 b that is consumed. It is also worth noting that the body can recycle the 12 b which cuts down on the impact of a 12 b deficiency. However, strict vegetarians or vegans are likely to require 12 b supplements if they do not eat any animal products that contain 12 b.</p>
<p>If the body does not have enough 12 b then anaemia is the most obvious symptom. Obviously, this is due to the fact that there is not enough 12 b to make healthy red blood cells. Anaemia can also be caused by the body not creating enough intrinsic factor to help absorb the 12 b that is available in the food consumed. The body tends to makes less intrinsic factor once a person reaches 50 and this will lead to less 12 b being absorbed and supplements of 12 b may be required. Kids are also at risk from anaemia because they may not eat the food that contain 12 b. Pregnant women need more 12 b because the baby is absorbing 12 b during the pregnancy to grow properly.</p>

<p>Essentially, there are two major players that set the standards for nutritional guidelines. They are the FDA and the Institute of Medicine. These two organizations work together to bring us the best possible advice when it comes to vitamin and mineral consumption. Below are some abbreviations, and what they mean, that may help you better understand who we are dealing with:</p>
<p>1. <b>The RDA:</b> This abbreviation stands for the Recommended Dietary Allowances.  RDAs are set as the nutritional guidelines for the minimum amounts that a person will need to consume in any given day. RDAs are set by the food and nutrition Board of the Institute Of Medicine.</p>
<p>2. <b>The USRDA:</b> The food and drug administration has other &#034;RDAs&#034;, one of them being the USRDA, which is the recommended daily allowance for the US.</p>
<p>3. <b>The RDI:</b> Eventually, the RDI will totally replace the USRDA on every food and supplement label sold in stores. This abbreviation stands for Reference Daily Intake and the amounts are very close if not the same as the older USRDAs.</p>
<p>4. <b>The DRV:</b> The DRV stands for Daily Recommended Values which the FDA created as a new standard intended to cover energy producing nutrients. DRV&#039;s cover the following: fats, proteins, carbohydrates, fiber, sodium, potassium, and cholesterol.<br />

5. <b>The DV:</b> The DV is the combination of the RDI&#039;s in DRV&#039;s into one more easily understood chart called the &#034;Daily Value&#034;. This has presented us with the current label nutritional information charts as you see them on today&#039;s food products. These labels include the DRV&#039;s and RDIs for a few vitamins and minerals, which is typically vitamin A, C, iron, and calcium.</p>

<p>This may help you understand better why vitamin C is always recommended whenever you have an injury or you want to promote healing. The first thing my mother used to always say when I get sick was to take my vitamin C. This is because you need collagen and in order to repair any damages to the body and boost your immune system, vitamin C aids in this repair.  </p>
<p>Of all the many antioxidants, vitamin C ranks #1 above them all. In addition to clearing out free radicals, vitamin C also teams up with other antioxidants and supports their functioning when needed. Much like how a car cannot run without gasoline, other vitamins and minerals (like iron for example), cannot properly function without vitamin C.  </p>
<p>Your immune system is literally your bridge to feeling and looking your best, and without vitamin C it cannot run at top levels. You will become sick, fatigued, and open yourself up to attracting other viruses. If ever there is one antioxidant to take when a person is feeling rundown, vitamin C would be it.</p>
<p><i>That is not all&#8230;</i></p>
<p>Vitamin C is also linked to a <b>reduction in major health disasters</b> such as strokes, heart attacks, and cancer. The reason why vitamin C can help prevent strokes and heart attacks is because it helps prevent high blood pressure and high blood pressure is a direct link to these diseases.  And as far as cancer is concerned, this terrible illness has less of a chance to grow  if a person&#039;s immune system is running at top speed, and as we stated earlier &#8211; vitamin C is responsible for this healthy state of the immune system.<br />

It is important to supplement your diet with vitamin C because, unlike most of nature&#039;s animals, the human body cannot manufacture this vitamin on its own. Vitamin C does not get stored in the human body for very long after it has been ingested, due to being water soluble. Therefore, anywhere between 10 and 200 mg is sufficient when taken in capsule form for most people. If you&#039;re active in place vigorous sporting activities then you may need more.  Consult your doctor or physician for exact requirements.</p>
