Choosing A Hair Replacement Surgeon: Important Questions You Should Be Asking

When searching for the right hair replacement physician, it is important to research the doctor's qualifications. And don't worry, it is perfectly normal to feel a little intimidated by asking a doctor directly for this information. However, a true professional will respect your right to have all of the information you need to make an informed decision when it comes to choosing the right surgeon for your needs.

Every doctor and his staff has all of the information that you will need to know about their practice, the history of their operations, and their certifications. In order to help you in your research, below are some standard questions that you should be asking:

1. Ask about the specific medical training that your doctor has received. This information should date back to the beginning of his career. Has he always been trained in hair replacement surgery? If not, how long has he been performing scalp lifts and micrografting?

2. Ask the doctor if you can view all of his certifications. Does he have any Board Certifications displayed or available? If so, then take note of what the certifications are for. Because there is no such thing as a board certification for hair loss surgery, be sure to find out what his certifications were for.

3. Find out how long the doctor has been performing hair replacement surgery. Ask for the exact number of operations he has been through. Were they all successful? Were there any complaints?

4. Be sure to understand what the expenses are in terms of the surgery you're after. If you opt for micrografting then you must understand that this is typically a very expensive procedure. However, if the price just seems like it's a little too low, then consider that in your overall assessment. But keep in mind that there are many lower-priced surgeries performed that come out very successful and satisfying to the patient.

5. Don't forget to check with the Better Business Bureau for any history of complaints against the medical practice in question. Were any charges filed from unhappy patients? If so, then were these issues resolved by the doctor? Also, in addition to checking the Better Business Bureau, be sure to research through the state medical board to find out if there have been any complaints filed.
