With this type of dietary plan, diabetic patients are encouraged to limit their intake of carbohydrates to about 5 to 10 percent of their entire food intake. This is because carbohydrates lead to higher levels of blood sugar which can be fatal to them.

With lower amounts of carbohydrates, they are encouraged to maintain a higher level of proteins and some necessary fats in their diet so that they don’t have a constant feeling of hunger.

The carbohydrate foods that are usually allowed include rice, yellow fruits, fruit juice, sugars, cereals, yellow vegetables, pasta, potatoes etc. Your stomach and intestine turn these carbohydrates into sugars and help to raise your blood sugar level.

The diabetes low carbohydrate diet should be low in fat, full of minerals, high in fiber with a lot of vitamins, phytochemicals, and antioxidants.

Doctors also believe that complete elimination of carbohydrates from diabetes low carbohydrate diet is not good for their patients. Because the carbohydrates are a major source of energy and nutrients diabetics are encouraged to consume some carbonhydrates. The limit of intake of carbohydrates should be around 130 grams.
