A healthy mouth means good teeth, sound gums and proper tongue. A smile becomes beautiful when there is no bad breath and the teeth are clean and disease free. Proper care should be taken for the gums, the teeth and the tongue to have a healthy mouth.

Among other reasons, poor digestion of food causes bad breath. The diet should be light so that the stomach can digest the food. In case of hunger, take food in short intervals. A day's fasting a week improves digestion system and thereby reduces bad breathes. A lot more depends on eating habits of an individual for having good breath. Consumption of ginger and lemon juice after heavy meals, especially launch and dinner, help digestion and thereby improves breath.

Light physical exercise and manual labor also help digest food. Regular morning and evening walks, some household works, taking physical care of babies, gardening are the short sum of the daily physical activities.

Taking over the counter mouthwash is no remedy. It only suppresses the bad breath for a short period of time. The tailor made mouthwash may also be harmful for the health because of its side effects. Such liquids may also injure the gum causing development of boils over it. Instead of taking such mouthwash, it is better to gargle with lukewarm water after every meal. Chewing basil leaves gives good breath.

Clean teeth are another factor for having good breath. Sound teeth are white, orderly spaced and clean. Bad teeth are yellowish, some time blackish, brittle and not evenly placed. Unhealthy diet and bad eating habits cause teeth problems. Consumption of much tobacco, tea, coffee, sweet and chocolates give rise to diseases in the teeth.

Regular brushing of teeth keeps the teeth germ free. The set of teeth having cavity or pyorrhea or any other diseases smell bad. Immediate remedy should be found to get over the crisis. Clove oil is good for diseased teeth. Clove oil also smells good and thus it is a good catalyst for having good breath.

Care should also be taken for gums. Bad gums produce bad teeth. Sound gums are red in color, compact and hard while unhealthy gums are spongy, pale and may bleed. Mangoes, oranges, grapes and lemons are good for having healthy gums. These fruits contain Vitamin C, which is essential for sound gums.

Tongue also plays a good role in mouth care. A diseased body has its symptoms reflected in the tongue. And that is the reason, the doctors first ask patients to show their tongues. They read much in tongue color. Indigestion makes the tongue white. Smoking makes the tongue yellowish and later dark. A black tongue is the symptom of cancer.

A good diet and proper digestion keep the tongue free from diseases and it is the soul of healthy mouth care.
