Type 2 Diabetes Diet
Many people have been living with type 2 diabetes for awhile whereas others are just learning that they have the illness. In many instances, this illness can be controlled by healthy diet and a lot of exercises. With the Type 2 diabetes diet, you have to wok hard to control your food choices. With this type of diet, your foods should be:
- Low in saturated fat.
- Low in calories.
- Low in carbohydrates.
Saturated fats are found in animal meats, in dairy products like milk, ice cream, cheese etc & many cooking oils like lard. If you are on a Type 2 diabetes diet, you should avoid these foods. If you eat a lot of saturated fats your triglycerides and cholesterol are likely to go up. This is dangerous because high cholesterol and triglycerides will harden your arteries, leading to heart attacks and strokes.
The basic problem with some type 2 diabetes patients is that their unhealthy eating habits have led them to be overweight. With this in mind, your Type 2 diabetes diet should be low in calories so that you don’t gain any additional pounds which can of course worsen your condition and lead to even more serious health issues. Being over weight prevents some of your body’s hormones to work properly and can cause stress on your heart. This causes insulin resistance. If you loose some of your weight by being on a Type 2 diabetes diet, then it is quite possible that your blood sugar will come down to normal.
Type 2 diabetes dieters should be aware of the fact that foods which are rich with carbohydrates can be lethal to them. Usually high carbohydrate foods contain sugars and starches. Pasta, rice, potatoes, rice, sugars, fruit juice, sugars, baked goods and sodas should be avoided as they contain high level of carbohydrates. Your stomach and intestines turn these foods into sugars and therefore ultimately contributing to high level of blood sugar. If you want to remain healthy try not to eat these type of foods and your diabetes should remain under control.
